At this point, I’d say FoH is tied with Pig Destroyer for my all time favorite grindcore band. I say tied because I love PD too much to kick them off that spot.

 

Is cattle decapitation considered grindcore? Maybe more death grind? I don't know. They're probably my favorite of that subgenre.

 

Cattle Decap definitely started as a more grind-oriented band but I'd say they're pretty much a blend of grind, death and black metal elements at this stage. I feel like they're really their own thing anymore.

 

Is this the soundtrack to Squid Game?

 

Did the new(est) Yautja album get a lot of traction around this thread? I've been listening to that a ton lately.

Awesome, great read! Pretty much agreed on all counts. I think it's pretty likely it ends up one of my favorites of the year at this point.

 

New Full of Hell will probably be in my top 10 for the year. I liked the leak I heard to cop a copy of the screenprinted jacket version of the record today. It's so damn good.

I definitely wouldn't classify them as a grindcore bans though. They have too many other elements that transcend them beyond just being pegged into a single label like that.

I also purchased physicals of the new Bodybox, 200 Stab Wounds, and Hyperdontia releases today. My credit card statement is gonna be rough.

 

First single off of said new Hyperdontia album.

 

Full of Hell added noise to their bag of tricks and it’s one of the best tracks on the record.

 

Yeah they’re a great example of a band that you know what to expect, but they switch things up *just* enough to make things interesting

 

new dying wish is so sick. i just moved to portland and haven’t been to a show since covid started, so i snagged some tickets to the album release show. so pumped.

 

Full of hell album was just crushing. Loved it.

Dying wish was fine, a fun listen but didn't live up to the hype. Bread and butter metalcore.

To reiterate - Full of Hell definitely has grind elements, but there's harsh noise, noise rock, death metal, black metal, and powerviolence elements there. Calling then just a grindcore band feels limiting because their sound is so expansive and cohesive simultaneously. Otherwise, I think we all feel the same way.

And saying all grindcore beyond that sounds the same is also a bit of a limiting statement. Repulsion doesn't sound anything to me like Insect Warfare or Discordance Axis or Wake or Dead in the Dirt...all of which could arguably fall under the grindcore tag.
