So I told my family about the Mario movie casting, thinking hey, this might be interesting to them.

The amount of not care as they quietly turned back to our new dishwasher was palpable, and you could hear my enthusiasm turning awkward like water going down a drain.

They said they liked the cast of a movie that has a person that you don't like in it and you acted like they donated to Hillsong personally. It doesn't matter if your politics are good if you don't know how to treat people like they're people. The gays have bigger issues to worry about than which doofus is voicing Mario. I mean I was fine with ignoring them saying they liked the cast of the movie. That's why I ignored them when they said they liked the cast of the movie.

But when someone pointed out the problems with Chris Pratt they got defensive and started suggesting that if you thought Chris Pratt was a bad casting choice you needed to boycott all of Nintendo. Rather than just admitting yeah Pratt sucks and moving on.

 

If Nintendo made a partnership deal with Chick Fil A to promote the movie, then I'd start thinking about Boycotting, but you're right, it's just voice acting for a movie. It's not the biggest of deals.

 

I can just see it going badly. Imagine if something like Calvin and Hobbes got sold to Dreamworks, and they turned it into something really sophomoric. Or if Disney bought Studio Ghibli. There's going to be some tonal shifts and aspects of it that they don't get right that's gonna be bothersome for fans. Sure, if Nintendo makes a ton of cash that lets them keep making good games then great. If it makes Nintendo a ton of money that causes them to outsource Mario games to western developers for cheap spinoffs, then no.

 

i am in disbelief from this Direct. like, the Pratt thing really overshadowed everything else i would've been excited about, lol

why do they think voice actors don't exist???? because i love 90% of that cast announced, but like, i just CANNOT imagine their voices coming from these characters who've had actual voice actors for years.

Castlevania Advance is fucking dope, N64 online is fucking dope, new Splatoon 3 footage (do we have a release date?) is dope, and a 3D Kirby game is fucking dope

But Nintendo has done stuff like before. I don't think its fair to compare it to Calvin and Hobbes, which has been incredibly protective of its IP, to Nintendo, which already slaps Mario's face onto a whole lot of things in the name of profit

 

Fair, but sometimes people say some crazy shit when they're worked up. You called them a white knight for a MAGA dude when nothing suggested that they were really pro-Chris Pratt.

I feel bad for derailing the thread, but I am tired of heated forum conflicts that would be pretty minor arguments if they were real conversations. No one in this thread is a bad person and I think we are good enough people to foster decent dialogue instead of feeling the need to bully others. It's wasted energy and solves nothing.

 

that's fair: I just really dislike most of the western 3D animation studios and being forced to sit through the Despicable Me films and Sing made me want to die. They have a track record of not doing well with established properties (Seuss being the main example).

I’m overjoyed that Kirby is finally getting a 3d game for the anniversary, I feel like such shit right now but I almost cried I was so happy.

 

Honestly have totally lost interest in Kirby as a franchise but a 3D game is definitely enough to pull me in. Going to be watching that one for sure.

 

Planet Robobot was the last Kirby game I liked. It's a top tier Kirby game. So good

 

That final fantasy racing game is so dumb lol

 

I mean yeah. the movie is probably going to be a bad movie for all the reasons you've mentioned.

but its also probably going to make Nintendo a lot of money. Illumination's films tend to be pretty terrible but do great at the box office especially given their production budgets are often way lower. Hence why they are doing it.

Genesis was my first console but I have very little excitement for any of the games announced. Realizing now that most of the games I loved were licensed.

But at the same time, wheres Vectorman? Wheres Kid Chameleon?
