I love Dogville and The Element of Crime. Antichrist, not so much. Sorry if I came off as an asshole. Thought you were accusing me of being a bad person because I watched a Criterion or something.

Although I would argue that making the viewer guilty is a Haneke theme, not as much a von Trier I feel like

both def enjoy putting thier audience in an uncomfortable position, just fuck Haneke for over using bordom as a tool. still loved funny people and cache was good but im not watching it again.

My flatmate feels similarly, he hated Funny Games for it.

Funny People is one of Haneke's worst imo.

I'm sure there are films that deal with those themes appropriately but I haven't seen any personally. It's true that I don't seek films out that attempt it but I have seen several fall flat on their face. I suppose 9 times out of 10 it can only be approached with the sort of sensitivity that it dserves if someone who has personally been affected atempts it. Never seen Man Bites Dog. Looks like a comedy about depravity which is fine by me but rape in something like that personally crosses my line.

Code Unknown is his best imo. I think Cache is top 3 though, so maybe he's just not for you.

the rape scene in MBD is a big deal, its supposed to be a dark comedy about depravity but we have become so extremely desensitized to violence and killing - especially adult male on adult male violence, like who gives a shit about that?? we feed it to children in superhero movies and don't blink. it took a very brutal rape scene till i felt any form of depravity, its a rare feeling and in context its interesting to explore. Completely understand people not wanting to put themselves through that tho.

American Ultra - Entertaining, I mostly watched it because I like Eisenberg and Stewart together
    The Brothers Grimsby - Ew
Keanu - Very funny, had me laughing throughout
Sleeping With Other People - I'm surprised I'd never heard of this one, but I was pretty out of the loop for a while. I quite liked it. Brie and Sudekis had good chemistry. Adam Scott plays a good creeper.
    Spectre - I fell asleep

The Neon Demon was fucking bizarre, even for Refn.

It's a bit more complex than that. It's comedic...until it makes you realize that laughing at this monster and finding him charming implicates you.

    Deadpool - 7/10

Not quite sure about this one, on the one hand I wasn't bored but neither was I overly excited by it.

A Foreign Affair is a solid mid-level Billy Wilder, but it was ballsy to release just 3 years after the war. Making comedy out of the black market and corruption of U.S. forces in post-war Berlin is a hell of a trick. Not sure lesser actresses than Jean Arthur and Marlene Dietrich could have pulled it off.
