who's defended anything or implied that they don't talk shit or post about threads in the discord? no one has said it doesn't happen. the point is, who gives a shit when the purpose of this discussion was how to improve the thread. And the suggestion @Anthony_ offered was one that would prevent users of the discord posting in this thread!! like is this a joke right now? it's beyond parody.

Like I said in the Kanye thread, it's not even about separating art from artist, its about whether talking about an artist and their music and maybe even enjoying it while doing your best to acknowledge whatever they've done and integrate it into your understanding of the artist and their art and your relationship to it is "separating the art from the artist"; and whether that is worse morally than just listening in private. My point in that thread was that that behavior should not be considered such, or if it is, it should not be bad, because if you respect the person doing the talking about the art there's no reason not to trust them to have a solid understanding of the whole situation and have made the personal decision that they feel comfortable discussing the music. (Which, I think the personal and subjective nature of that decision has been agreed upon in this thread over and over.) Further, I was trying to say that if you don't respect the person talking about the art, or don't believe them capable of a nuanced understanding of it, then why are you even arguing with them? Why would you give a shit what someone you don't respect listens to or talks about? The only reasons I could come up with were to try to make the person feel bad or make yourself feel good, but I did note that I was open to other explanations!

 

maybe i would take his participation more seriously if he didnt say the donda thread worked itself when it did so because he ran me out by participating in the exact kind of posting being called out in this thread...like two weeks ago.

The problem isn't localized to this thread, though. There seems to be a miscommunication about the exact conversation being had because you're talking about this thread specifically while Spo is talking about how we interact on the site as a whole. I tend to agree with @ItsAndrew that the two are hand-in-hand and part of a larger conversation that needs to be had. We've come this far, might as well get as much of it out in the open as possible. I don't care if people want to have a Discord to shit on me or the mods or whoever they disagree with. But it's a part of the conversation because it's directly led to sitewide aggression we're talking about.

 

Only responding to this because I keep getting tagged in here but to clarify my comment the Donda thread worked itself out because the majority of the people in that thread disagreed with me and what I was saying and so I left the thread and haven't posted in there since then. It's safe to go back to now!

 

i also left so i thought the opposite had happened, good to know and i apologize for assuming the worst

 

Re: separating the art from the artist, there's also something to be said about caring about accountability issues and also recognizing that everything is fucking dogshit right now and if listening to some dumb Kanye album or Brand New or whoever brings someone 40 minutes (or an hour and 40 minutes) of comfort, it's shitty to get aggressive about that. No one should be obligated to feel miserable all the time

bro i said i liked donda during one of the streams and he posted like 3 times in a row all the bad shit hes done like i had no idea and was just letting it slide, he never quoted me or called me out by name but its obvious who he was targeting and what the intent was, i dont really care about it anymore but you can choose to not see it

please educate me because im not in there anymore and also the only person from that discord that i see posting in here anymore is @Anthony_ so i'm not sure how the discord is a "root" problem when 95% of the users in that discord don't post in here and haven't for a long while!

I'm going to have to correct the record here again because this is not true at all. The praise for the album started on page 8 of the thread, on August 5, 2021 when the second stream began. There are then nearly two full pages of multiple people talking about how good the album is before I chimed in on page 10 by posting the Kanye MAGA hat picture. There were a total of 18 posts between that post and your last post in the thread at that time, which wasn't even a post about liking Donda, it was this post:

This is the sort of “just stop talking” I was expressing seems unproductive. It seems completely self serving from all sides at this point and it feels a little defeating.
