Phaynes is just dying to tell us all what the actual 2nd longest album of all time is. Don’t ask him. It’s what he wants.

So he apologized, retracted the apology, went on Kanye West's shitty album that nobody can stop talking about and did a verse about how he's not sorry, hung out with Marilyn Manson, and now he's apoligizing again?

    Checks out.

ran into a brand new defender in the wild on ig. their defense was "it happened like 20 years ago and he apologized, move on"

Yeah I don’t understand what someone testing positive for COVID has to do with accountability? There’s no reason for that to be posted in here. It’s not like he’s doing some reckless anti-covid shit or something and harming others.

tbh have never encountered a single person off of this forum who gives a shit about the BN stuff, if they even know about it. blind allegiance to them. it's something i encounter pretty frequently, as BN is still in constant rotation on playlists at a lot of long island dive bars i go to.

i've seen three people in brand new shirts in the past month and a half which definitely caught me really off guard and made me feel not good (even as someone who expects people to continue listening to them on their own time)

lol Halsey literally sampled Brand New on their last album, potentially putting money directly into BN's pockets (don't know the terms of BN allowing them to use the sample) but definitely exposing Brand New's music in a positive light to all of their fans. I think it's safe to say there have been no lasting consequences for that band, especially given that they were planning to end things shortly after the allegations came out anyway.

Going to be interesting seeing the reaction on here when they mount their rumored comeback that's supposed to happen within the next year.

yeah i mean i know it's kind of a dead horse at this point but it still kinda shocks me how many people either don't know what happened or just don't care and i just don't get how you can't care about it.

We're a very small corner of the internet and an even smaller percentage of the general population. It would be naive to think that the general population feels as passionate about accountability as we do. I stopped listening to Brand New immediately & have no regrets, but if they surprise dropped an album it would top the charts immediately. I'm not listening to Kanye, & I'm telling people why I'm not, but Donda will be the number one album for several weeks whether everyone in this thread protests it or not. Unfortunately, like 99% of people don't know or know and choose not to care about artists' behavior. We're the 1% in our echo chamber

While this shouldn't be misconstrued as a defense of the band, I would have to disagree here. I'd say being forced to abruptly end a tour and end all promotion less than 3 months after their first #1 Billboard ranking, and blowing their shot at whatever intricate exit/farewell they had planned can count as a consequence for poor actions.

Them coming back is just hearsay rumors. There's no way it's happening.

Those aren't lasting consequences, they were consequences in the moment. They were getting ready to end the band anyway and their musical legacy clearly hasn't been tarnished with the vast majority of their fans.

    And we'll see about that.

Isn’t one part of accountability, at least one that’s been brought up here, for bands involved in cases of misconduct (or worse) to essentially “fuck off” in the public sphere indefinitely (or until proper amends have been made to the survivors)? That’s exactly what Brand New have done here, they left the public eye and haven’t popped back out since.

People are always going to listen to and publicize that they are listening to Brand New much like people will always listen to and publicize they are listening to Tiny Moving Parts or Jank or The Front Bottoms (specifically songs with Ciaran) or [insert problematic band]. Sure, it would be nice if they promoted listening to any other non-problematic artist but you aren’t going to get that from people who care way less about accountability than folks on here do. I think them going away and not making any noise since is a good thing and definitely a consequence.

that seems like part of the whole process, but for a band who’s shtick is to not be very public anyways it just feels par for the course and not really any action inspired by the allegations.

apologies instead of excuses would be nice as well. Or really anything from any of the members

    Exactly.

And, again, because they were literally going to end the band within months of the allegations coming out anyway. All it did was move the timetable up.

Also, a huge part of the reason so many people don't know what happened is because the band didn't address it in any meaningful way themselves.

They definitely faced more consequences than 99% of the bands in the scene discussed in this thread. It's as if you're saying the ideal consequence is for fans to not think about them ever (I know i know i know you don't give a shit to what people do on their own time). How does this band benefit from fans talking about them (wherever that's happening)? Maybe some stream royalties? There's no new merch, no new tours, no articles being written about them, no new ways for the band to increase in notoriety, no positive discussion thread on this website. There's a subreddit with probably <100 visitors at any given time. I don't get how any proponent of accountability isn't satisfied with this band's outcome. It's probably the best possible outcome short of the MIB mind eraser thing you appear to be hoping for.
