I’m pretty upset at this Halo stuff. I was really looking forward to the game. Was fine with the year delay so the studio could take their time and…. They’re still releasing an unfinished game

Market strength. American's aren't often early adopters and hold things too strongly.

Test in Poland, if it works and they love it, it comes to America.
Test in Poland, if it works and they hate it, oh well. Poland's culture is more accepting.
Test in America, if it works and they love it, great.
Test in America, if it works and they hate it, you've just damaged your reputation in your best market.

Why are so many companies dropping the ball when it comes to release dates and releasing full games? Sony has no big title after delaying their games to 2022. 343 Studios delayed Halo Infinite a year and it’s still releasing without full content. It doesn’t add up.

Because they're still working under COVID restrictions and work from home. This was always going to be the case, with games getting delayed, rushed, and crunched on because of it. It very clearly adds up lol

  8. They’re delaying games so they don’t have sixteen articles from Jason Schreier come out about crunching.

COVID really fucked up the dev timeline for almost everything coming out.

I’m surprised people are still asking this question, it’s possible that there was a lot more work to do on these games, even if the workers got vaccinated and went back into their office. I think it’s assumed every game was 80% done before the pandemic and so every long awaited game should be released this year then. That’s not how games are put together and even if they’re done there’s a whole nother process they have to go to in order to make sure the game is fully functional lol not every gaming org is cj project red or whatever shit they’re called.

As long as multiplayer is in a good place I can’t imagine the game will be bad.

This and the fact that lots of games people want are bigger and more visually ambitious than ever. There's a pattern last gen of large scale games being rough around the edges at launch, so seems likely that might continue, even when/if the pandemic dies down. Ultimately games are probably just gonna take longer to make, and release dates will be closer to the time of announcements (instead of earlier) because of crunch controversy and how much delays and janky launches piss gamers off and decreases goodwill towards developers.

I still don’t see how the delays and releasing the games without full content makes sense even with Covid going on. These big studios (mostly the dev behind GOW2 and 343) have been working a year and a half with covid restrictions. You’d think with that much time working under those restrictions that they would know if they will be able to meet the initial release date. Like why on earth announce God of War 2 for a 2021 release when they knew good well it wasn’t going to launch then. As for 343, they started work on Halo Infinite years before covid came around. 6 years since Halo 5 and they still can’t release the co op campaign in December.

this sort of shit has been happening forever, big games often get pushed at least a year or two, covid probably just added to it to make it even more noticeable. I don't think anyone really believed the 2021 date for God of War.

Exactly. It’s like Sony announced the 2021 date just to move consoles knowing full well they were not going to deliver the game by that set time.

The question is who’s responsible for those release dates. There’s a lot of interests behind those.

That’s true. It’s possible it’s not even the studios that agreed to those dates. Probably alot of push from higher ups that don’t even work on the games.

you are wrong though. it’s almost like there is still a global pandemic going on and what Moose said before I could. these studios are massive with folks all over the world in countries in different phases of lockdown, vaccination, etc.

Not to mention 343 literally had to go back to the drawing board for the Halo campaign after the initial reveal didn't go over well. So yeah, of course they're scrambling to improve it, in the midst of another bad wave of COVID.

You also don't know that Sony wasn't actually planning to have GoW out by this year. It really could've been a holiday release, but obviously things changed dramatically since it was announced!

wait why did 343 have to go back to the draing board for Halo campaign? I thought the debacle over last years reveal was only that the graphics looked last gen. havent really been keeping up much since then.
