    This is wild.

  2. fwiw its hard to imagine a less exploitative way to become rich than twitch. haha that rhymed. anyway my main thought on this, i know someone who has a medium-big lefty twitter account who is always posting anti imperialist shit and talking about how whoever rich person or imperialist needs to be guillotined meanwhile they live in a house paid for by their partner being an executive at a mortgage company. that pisses me off a lot more personally than a twitch guy who is slightly left of Bernie paying a mortgage with donations and subscriptions

underlying point is i dont think having a mortgage for your personal home or being a rich twitch streamer is morally wrong in the grand scheme of things. its silly to try to point to numbers alone as evidence of whatever. engels owned a factory

  3. does anyone else have this manufactured benchmark in their head where making $100k salary is like the end goal of professional life, the highest financial milestone your imagination can fathom, a threshold where in your imagination at least you can simply stop worrying about anything and cruise to a reasonable retirement age? or is this just some weird fixation i've created for myself because of ooooooh 6 digits. i just wanna make 6 fig guys don't cancel me :\

This entire thing is probably the best thing I have seen from SNL in years, easily - but for someone reason the part that kills me the most every time is the listing Dan Levy is looking at having 7 bedrooms and 8 bathrooms.

  6. Yes. My entire life for some reason and I don’t know why or how that got in my head.

Nope, have this odd fixation as well. It really hits a threshold where my needs are met and the worry from that would be resolved while allowing some wiggle room for fun things. Of course that is due to my location, though the COL here is going up and the whole more you make, the more you spend adage but I think some of that is bullshit.

  9. I’ve owned 4 different houses and sold for a profit each time. But that’s simply attributed to the housing market growth of the last 10 years, I realize I could have been way worse off if I bought in 2007 lol

Yes and at this point in my adult, professional life it has become increasingly clear it’s a number I’ll never hit because I’m nowhere even relatively close and it’s often distressing.

  11. Me either lol, only thing I can think of is that whatever the actual number that provides what we imagine $100k does is probably actually around $100k depending on CoL, and also of course the extra digit. but still, its funny how large that looms in my head

  14. I was talking to a friend of mine who also is currently working from home from their parents' house and we were just dreaming of how much we could save on just a year of making that much while living with our parents lol. we could probably almost pay off their mortgages!

    I'd like 100k. I just interviewed for a position with a 70k salary, which I don't think I'm getting a second interview for.

I am still trying to hold on to hope I am going to get close to crossing it eventually. Really waiting to see when I get bumped to the next level of my job and what that wage increase is. Hoping that happens by years end.

Though the quickest way for me to get there would be to job jump as that is the only way I have ever got a big bump in pay. We just had a guy leave for different company in my industry and I found out he got a 35% bump to switch which is wild.

That is actually really sad that the only way to get those types of raises is to switch companies, particularly when I get along with both of my bosses extremely well and that to me is critical in tolerating any type of job.

  18. Yeah I think it’s also because it feels like an easier number to think about than like “well if I make 72k pre taxes that means….” Or whatever, i think it just feels like some kind of “won’t worry” number that somehow culturally I feel like a bunch of us picked up on somehow. I have friends that have said similar through the years when we talk about salaries and goals.

I’d love to own a house one day but right now I can’t even afford a one bedroom apartment (with my girlfriend too!) in the city I live so I’m not sure how likely that’ll be haha

yea company loyalty is more often then not bullshit imo. i could quit my job and make a decent chunck more w a competitor very easily but i dont because i want to leave the field outright soon anyway.

i can barely even dream of making just above a livable wage. i can barely imagine holding down a job for more than two weeks because i havent been able to at any point in the past year.

    First you're already cancelled

Second is growing up me and friends thought this, then once you ascertain that everyone starts going "six digits is nothing need seven now". My wife's brother when I met him seven years ago had a goal of retiring with 3mil, now that number has grown to 20mil. Capital is an addiction.
