I think in a normal world of nuance, yes very much true. But the world of the internet in 2021 and Twitter discourse? Ehhh….

 

Are leftist allowed to have 2 full baths? Or just 1.5? What are the rules?

 

why do we care so much about what one person is doing? are you not allowed to have socialist beliefs if you dont do x amount of organizing? does it count for anything that someone hears his ideas and then decides to get involved and partake in organizing themselves and then that spreads and so on and so forth? do we know for sure that hasan does not donate his money to worthy causes? is he expected to single handedly clean up skid row and solve the opioid crisis in america through his exponential wealth that afforded him a 2.5 million dollar home in the country's most obscene housing market (im being sarcastic, buying a 2.5 mil house in california does not seem like the level of 'wealth' i should waste energy on being mad at)? because thats what some people expect apparently and i cannot wrap my head around it.

for what its worth, if anything, as far as i know his money is made through voluntary donations and subscriptions and he does not employ anyone, and he pays his taxes. i truly wonder what more is expected of him and why. the workers movement does not start or end with him or anyone like him. i see the entirety of breadtube as nothing more than a counter to the predominantly right wing space of alternative media sources, which is a positive thing.

well that's easy, it's cause the internet mostly sucks, the platforms encourages drama for interactions and not for nuanced discourse save for perhaps between people who've gotten to know each other like here and other tighter communities that exist online, like the group of communists i cheat on all of you with on clubhouse.

but uh, I think a socialist is expected to help build socialism, and I say that as a hypocrite who doesn't organize while watching many working class socialists do it, who may feel some typa way watching a streamer make millions propagating leftist ideas while they try and build a party and movement for socialism.

but yeah, the discourse is definitely awful.

i've never seen it but apparently there's a whole bunch of TYT individual attacks (insert person with platform) youtube discourse which I have no desire to delve into but may be eating up a lot of the leftist spaces online

 

somebody who will never have 2 million dollars: "if i had 2 million dollars i would simply purchase a house for 1 dollar and then donate the rest to charity "

 

being able to buy a 2.5 million dollar house doesnt mean he has millions, thats not how buying a house works. i also would never in a million years consider someone like hasan the kind of socialist that is expected to build socialism, or a socialist at all. just someone with socialist beliefs. there's a distinction. and if there's resentment about that then so be it but even you admit the discourse is awful so why is any time or energy wasted

 

DeSantis trying to unilaterally ban safety measures for kids while a bunch of mentally ill 20-year olds on Twitter fight over whether buying a house is immoral sums up the state of the world quite nicely.

 

It's like property ownership has become exponentially prohibitive right alongside the rise of REITs and increased legal/authoritative rights of boomer property owners

lol the 500k comment is sending me, truly. Just a complete and total lack of regard for the fact that certain places cost exponentially more to live in than others.

And also yeah the idea that most people just walk into the House Store and plunk down a briefcase with the entire price of the house inside and say "One House, please. Here is my $2 million dollars upfront, as per tradition."
