so of the total cases, only 18-28 percent are breakthrough, and of the hospitalizations, only 12 to 24 percent are from breakthrough cases? i see no reason, as a vaccinated person, to panic from those numbers tbh but maybe thats just me

too much of the framing here borders on "vaccines dont work and wont save us" when they very clearly and obviously do and will

I don't think that's the way it's being framed at all to be honest and it's only because anti-vaxxers will take it that way that raising awareness about increasing rises in proportion of vaxxed people getting sick and hospitalized becomes problematic. If 20% of hospitalizations are breakthroughs, then there are currently over 16,000 vaccinated people hospitalized due to COVID in the country right now. That's a 50% rise from the *total* number of people hospitalized just over a month ago. Vaccines can still work well while accepting that that number is very concerning

you're acting like the only stances that exist are being strictly anti-vaxx and pro-vaxx and not taking into account the many, many, many people who fall in between. we know there are a lot of people that fall in between because new people are getting vaccinated every single day and have been for months and months. there are still people to be convinced to get the vaccine, and constantly putting out info that frames vaccinated people as super high risk for being hospitalized and getting sick when really their risk is significantly diminished is, imo, harmful. not saying this person is explicitly saying that but it absolutely runs the risk of doing so. and in my opinion, 16k people vaccinated in the whole country in hospitals is extremely low. if those people were hospitalized in areas where vaccines are widely distributed then there wouldnt be any risk of overcrowded hospitals. its people without vaccines that are causing the issues and sight of that should not be lost.

I remain convinced that once Americans hear DeSantis' voice they will refuse to vote for him.

But nobody is saying that you're super high risk for getting sick if you're vaccinated. They're only saying that you're at a higher risk than the incredibly low risk we previously thought. Which seems to me like a pretty important thing to know. You yourself looked at the numbers and were like "nah, that's not that bad"

im just saying, someone vaccine hesitant looks at that and could see something completely different. i did say nah thats not that bad but by saying that i feel like im pushing back against the opposite narrative being pushed. plus the person who posted it said yeah this is very bad. maybe im wrong.

  20. Simplifying it: as vaccination numbers increase the number of breakthroughs will increase. As breakthroughs increase, hospitalization of those cases will increase, what you will want to look at is the absolute number of hospitalizations and compare to the unvaccinated number.

If right now only breakthrough delta cases of vaccinated people were hospitalized, the numbers would be, by everything I can see, manageable. A much more vaccinated populace would lead to there being more numbers of breakthroughs, and even the ability for people to write "90% increase in vaccinated hospitalizations" headlines, but if the absolute number of hospitalizations can stay manageable, and if the absolute death number remains very low for the vaccinated; I still don't see anything that makes me think anything besides we should be doing everything we can to get more shots into arms. And if you're already vaxxed, you know what you should be doing right now to stay safe and help shorten the spread, keep doing it and be smart.

These tweets - largely by the nature of being tweets - do not provide the context necessary to understand their content. They are also presented with the air of (contrarian) authority oft used by the anti-vaccine crowd / vaccine hesitant to discredit and question the necessity of the vaccines.

16K vaccinated hospitalized seems pretty bad to me, considering the infectiousness of the virus. Means a lot more vaccinated people are in danger of having serious issues with the virus than previously thought

The implication is clearly "you're at a high risk for getting sick". As @Jason Tate pointed out, even if the risk is higher than initially thought, it's still incredibly low but none of that comes through in these tweets.

It's less than 1/1000th of the people who have been vaccinated.
