the whole concept of "spatial audio" but listening to it through apple earbuds... just really makes no sense to me. So much of it feels like a marketing ploy

I’m gonna see if I can’t find anything on some audio engineering boards about it lol because I get the feeling you’re right and the engineering community probably hates it because it ruins mixes

Spatial audio is coming to DAWs soon and from what I understand there are a few studios that are currenrly accredited for atmos mixing, so someone is out there mixing at least some of them.

Like others have said quality varies from mix to mix, but some of these sound pretty intentional. Golden Hour for instance is a great spatial mix and there’s a lot of purpose in the tracks’ plannings. It could all just be algorithms, but I’d think some of them have gotten a human touch. If not, I’m impressed and would love to hear someone like Shawn Everett actually do a spatial mix.

Don’t Go Dark is amazing. Now imagine if that vocal reverb was turned down…

I know the main comparison being thrown around is Bruce, but the production strikes me as vaguely Tusk-esque. Just finished Big Life and it reminds me of I Know I'm Not Wrong.

Has def veered more Bruce since. Stop Making This Hurt is excellent, really glad I hadn't listened to that one yet.

Just finished first listen, def not perfect but I'm happy. So many classic Bleachers feel good moments. IMO production had as much that I liked to it as what I didn't. HDYWM song of the year

Don’t Go Dark is great, but yeah that reverb kills it. Feels like this a headphones at night kinda record

Unsurprisingly I love this. Don't Go Dark is huge.

is it the same for you? Prestigious

Really hoping Terrible Thrills, Vol. 4 is just this same album with the type of production from the last two records.

It’s cool that it’s on here as a different version but man the new Strange Behavior is not as good as the old one. Despite all the complaints I have for this album, there’s only 3 I don’t really like on first listen. The closer is really good. 91 is a top 5 Bleachers song for me.

listening with headphones instead of the car and new SB is cool, still can’t top the old one but I get it now

Didn’t realize SB was the reworked Steel Train track, this original version is
more my speed. Definitely different vibes he’s going for, but it’s funny to me my favorite non-single track here is just an old track redone

This is definitely way more my speed than Gone Now, which has always struck me as three really good songs surrounded by stuff that was either way less compelling or felt unfinished.

I feel the exact opposite of this hahaha Gone Now’s a way more exciting front-to-back listen for me while this one feels more like an unfinished slog. Gone Now is my favorite of the three Bleachers records though and I think I’m in the minority for that

I do like this but it’s definitely not his best. Little bit disappointed when I realized the album was only 34 minutes and I had already heard half of it basically, but I feel that’s kinda on me for not setting my expectations properly.

Don’t Go Dark is my favorite “new” song on here, plus all the singles are still good in context. Everything else is fine, not great, but not bad.

Dang, didn't care for this at all; sucks to have waited all this time and not vibe with the final product. Nice that it does vibe with some people though.

The recurring motifs on Gone Now really grate on me, haha. I just never really came around on much of that album outside of the singles, which were knockouts. I thought it was going to be his big level-up album based on what he was releasing beforehand, but whenever I try to listen to it now, I lose interest somewhere after "Everybody Lost Somebody." This one, while it has its issues, feels like it has a higher number of fully realized songs.
