I hate that stupid talk singing thing he does live. It sounds stupid. Just sing the song normal

Seeing that live definitely re-emphasizes that 'Greetings From Asbury Park' thing he's trying to do.

To me he's doing more of a Wild & Innocent thing with these songs -- sax, chant-alongs, dance breaks, call-and-responses, more emphasis on pithy choruses than wordy verses, etc.

Wait he's redoing the first two albums or did I miss something?

Where did you see this? I would love some of Gone Now to get a new mix.

I saw Jason's comment and wasnt sure what he meant by it.

He means that the mix on the new album sounds bad (to him at least). I'm assuming he got an advance.

The mix shouldn't distract from the music and if it does, then that's not good.

  12. Like the last Andrew McMahon album, I find it distracting and detracting.

Hmm. Well, I'm still very much interested, but that's good to know.

How do the rest of the songs compare to the four already released? Is it even worse on the others or is that a good indicator of what to expect?

I’ve weirdly been able to get over the production on SMTH and HDYWM. The excessive reverb on Chinatown still bugs me.

    Things have changed.

Hideous fashion choices from almost everyone in that performance. Doing retro cosplay like this is always weird to me.

Given his track record, you have to think that the way the album sounds is down to a conscious decision made by Jack. That reverb/ delay/ chorus sound gives the songs an old-time feel in my opinion, which fits in with the aesthetic of the new record. Gaslight Anthem had it with The '59 Sound too.

    I really like it.

59 Sound still sounds good though, it's mixed well and has cool audio effects, I don't think these songs have both those things

something done deliberately in a mix to capture a certain sound or aesthetic can still sound, well, bad. just because it’s how the artist wants it to sound doesn’t mean it’s completely absolved from criticism

I'm glad we have established it's your opinion, and subjective then, after making out like my opinion was incorrect.
