I really liked Fear Street Part 1. I’m surprised at the amount of gore and lore.

Loving Werewolves Within so far…would’ve enjoyed my first viewing more during a snow squall, but I’m super happy nonetheless.

Watched it last night. I enjoyed it quite a bit also. Goddamn I felt old because I knew just about every song they played. That said, they had some killer tracks throughout.

I honestly don't like the trend of using music to convince people it is the nineties. It feels like a cop out. Cruella did the same thing. It just felt like an overload for people who can't figure out the timeframe. It feels insulting.

Yeah I agree it can be overdone. Even in this they would play a song for like three second before immediately switching it up. However, in this particular case and the 90s being a bit more difficult to be obvious about, music is probably the best tool to use to show your audience what era you are trying to represent. Attire is a good instrument to use also, something I usually catch but don't think I paid close enough attention to what they were wearing in Fear Street.

  7. Thought Fear Street 1994 was enjoyable. It's a dumb, fun slasher. Looking forward to the next two.

Come True was very interesting. Not sure I understand what happened by the end, but I really dug it overall, particularly some of the visuals.

Conjuring 3 was watchable but disappointing.

Censor was cool. Definitely a fun concept.

Watched Scanners for the first time. The movie is mostly just decent, but the ending is awesome.

They show clips from the original in the credits and that looks dope too. Kinda want to go back and watch it. The practical effects look better than the CGI in the new one.

  18. Watched The Amityville Horror (1979) last night and I really think it's a lot better than the reviews it got (both at the time and today on Letterboxd). Honestly might be my favorite supernatural horror film. It splits the difference between The Exorcist (which it came six years after) and The Shining (which it came a year before). It's a little long, but great performances from Brolin and Kidder, well-paced tension, genuine scares, and some iconic photography of that house.

Both the OG Amity and the remake are rated pretty unfairly on RT.

  20. Not sure how well it would hold up, but I also seem to remember really enjoying the 2005 Amityville remake.
