How does he say these are false while also saying they happened when he was a teenager. Make it make sense, bud.

  2. The 'I'm gonna get my lawyers involved even though these totally happened when I was a teenager' defence

A man accused of domestic assault wheeling out his current partner as character witness is really not the good look he thinks it is.

I wonder how TMP is going to announce that Proper is not on the tour anymore? I’m curious what phrasing they will say (like “personal reasons”, for example). It will be very awkward when they do make an announcement because everyone knows the real reason Proper dropped off so making some vague generic reasoning won’t work.

  6. probably some wishy-washy bullshit statement like Dylan put out when the allegations surfaced, they've got form

If I’m reading this right…3 of the 4 members of The 1975 committed sexual assault? Also members of their crew and touring band?

    Ummm…so they’re cancelled right?

  8. I dislike the use of the term 'cancelled' when a person experiences the consequences of their unsavoury actions but for better or worse you probably can't 'cancel' a band this big unfortunately, regardless of what happens with these allegations, serious though they are.

Yikes, that’s wild. Are there any details on the allegations? Matty has always been kind of problematic but I thought a lot of that behavior was due to his past heroin use.

Either way this is unacceptable, gross, and illegal. I hope the victim finds comfort whichever way they feel necessary. These guys can go the way of Brand New…

Where are you getting the idea that what happened was sexual assault? All I’m seeing is that there are allegations against 3 of the 4 members, nothing about what those allegations entail. I just think we shouldn’t use language that the survivor(s) involved aren’t using and I haven’t seen sexual assault mentioned.

Also, I don’t like the words “Ummm…so they’re cancelled right?”. Aside from the fact that it would be difficult to cancel a band this big, I don’t know if that’s the language I would use when there isn’t much information available specifically about The 1975 members. Obviously if they did something bad, by all means stop supporting them, but just throwing the word “cancelled” out there before we know really anything isn’t helpful.

This is so spot on. The term cancelled itself is ridiculous, it's called consequences.

They might just update the tour flyer and not actually talk about it.

So what are the allegations then? Sorry for jumping to conclusions but the story is extremely hard to follow with such few details.

I don’t believe the allegations have been made clear, which is why I think it’s best to hold off on assuming it’s sexual assault or rushing to yell “cancelled” at The 1975.

  18. Yeah I don't know exactly what the allegations entail (and jumped the gun calling them sexual assault) but it doesn't look good.

I was trying to follow this situation yesterday, I totally understand the discontent but I don't think anything was done maliciously or intentionally. It's a learning opportunity for the band and the fanclub, and they're actually trying to make things right.

Also, I don't understand freaking out about it being "behind a paywall". It's on the fan club website, and if you're not a member of the fan club, then the situation doesn't even apply to you?

I think the point is that the band apparently hasn’t been great on being accommodating to fans with disabilities and putting their statement addressing the issue behind a subscription based fan club doesn’t address all their disabled fans, only the ones who also can afford a subscription to their fan club.

The point was specifically around accommodating fans *in the fan club* with disabilities though. It did not have anything to do with regular accessible tickets.

Accessibility is an issue in the music scene, the statement would be relevant to all fans with disabilities (and, I'd argue, anyone who cares about accessibility/ableism)

Exactly, and also it’s very possible some disabled people are hesitant on joining the fan club because of how disabled fans have been treated. How are those fans to know the band is working on making the shows/meet and greets more accessible if they can’t access the statement released?

I have MS and I always worry I might get to a point where accessibility is an issue so this bums me out. But I’ll use this as an opportunity to plug this great local non profit: Half Access | Making Live Music Accessible
