  1. I actually read the thing a long while back and how the fuck he still has a platform is unfathomable to me

My bad, i meant about what Mark Hoppus did that you didn't like.

The post you quoted has nothing to do with Mark Hoppus, and you’re bringing up posts from a completely different thread, which is very confusing and derails both conversations.

I don’t want to put words in Audrey’s mouth since they didn’t respond further in the Hoppus thread, but I would guess that they are referring to Hoppus’ approval via silence in regards to who he works with or Blink works with. Blink did a posthumous collaboration track with XXXtentacion, whom you can Google. While it was probably Travis Barker who pushed the track forward, Mark to my knowledge has never made a statement or comment on it.

Blink also has Matt Skiba as their current guitarist. Matt has made many inflammatory pro-police posts on social media. He has also made social media posts supporting another musician who has known Neo-Nazi views/affiliation. He responds to any push back to this with hostility and other nonsense. Again Mark has nothing to say about it.

In both cases while Mark may not be directly involved, sometimes the company a person keeps and the words they don’t say says something about them. Some feel that if he doesn’t support the things he or his band members are involved in that he should say something publicly. Others say that he doesn’t have that responsibility. That’s for you to decide how you feel about it.

I don't judge anyone who listens to him but personally he was so awful it's weird how he just reinvented himself and everything was fine

I don't speak for everyone and it might be hilariously naïve and ignorant of me to do considering how I feel about other individuals who do the same thing, but I do think Tyler has grown from that shitty edgelord shock value personality. I also don't judge anyone who might still feel a type of way about Tyler from those early years, but this is a case I do feel he has had actual development. Although if Selena and/or Victoria ever came out and said something like "yea uh still not cool and he never tried to make up for that" then I would fully support them.

i mean, not that it excuses it, but he was 19. i wouldn't call it "reinventing" himself so much as just ... growing up?

He speaks about how he personally went to Selena and apologized to her directly, so that's some nice accountability to hear about.

  11. Yeah, definitely understand still not feeling comfortable with Tyler but I'd also point to him no longer performing the majority of Goblin era songs live as part of him really putting that schtick to bed. It's not exactly revelatory that he got big saying awful, absurd shit as a teenager but I'm super glad he's grown out of it in the public eye over the past seven-ish years

Tyler and Earl were both pretttttty bad back in the day. Those early songs are rough.

“Starting from age 6 to age 25, maybe 350 times. My mom cancels me, my brother cancels me, my schoolmates canceled me — everybody cancels me. I cancel me, my boyfriends have canceled me. Not in a way where it’s like a huge political down power of something crazy that I did. It’s just, canceling is a fight on the internet, and that’s how I see it. It’s a fight for something and I’ve been in pressure where I feel like I’ve had to fight. And I’ve done that my whole life, so anything that happens, I come right out the other side just okay.”

Someone shared more info on Ben Barnett (lead singer) of Kind of Like Spitting being a creep. Heads up to anyone who listens to them or ever comes in contact with him!

Even if there wasn’t a homeless camp there (which…I’d love to have been in the room when they decided having a show at a homeless camp was the right move) maybe…still be considerate of/respectful to your surroundings and don’t shoot off fireworks/start fires/be a nuisance? It sucks that some folks in hardcore think that they can do whatever they want without repercussion or any awareness that there are people outside their bubble that may be affected by their actions. Truly a shame.

Tyler getting a pass for using the word ***got upwards of 50+ times on some of his earlier records is gross, but I gues we pick and choose who has "grown up" and who is cancelled.

I mean, you can be really jaded about it sure. Or you can realize the discussion is "accountability," the realize that Tyler has apologized, shown real growth, denounced those things and become a better person. Or you can just minimize it to "getting a pass" if it makes you feel like a better person on the internet.
