It’s also hypocritical for them to constantly be like “look, we are a progressive hockey team!” and then hire a crappy retread coach lol why not just get an assistant coach you think could be good?

I'm guessing it's Tony Granato from University of Wisconsin. If it is him, I think it's as yawn-inducing as a Tochett hiring. He hasn't done much at the NCAA level. I will give him credit for making Caufield a more well-rounded player, but the team also hinged their entire season on Caufield's back. The rest of the team was mediocre.

 

That seems pretty logical, definitely better than tocchet and if you’re just going to stink for a few years, it’s fine.

 

Hakstol wasn't the the problem in Philly, so I'm cool with him getting a shot.

 

Why does he look totally different than he did in philly?

I think it's a good hire. I think he learned a lot from his first experience. And credit to him for getting the Leafs to play quality defense last season.

 

It’s better than all the other coaches they were talking to but I really think at some point, you can just hire a coach from somewhere else instead of going for someone who’s already been an nhl coach. It’s not like he was necessarily bad in philly, hopefully francis can get a lot of talent for him to coach. It’s going to be hard to follow up what mcpherson did for vgk for any expansion team.

 

Should have had JT Brown do dual coaching/analyst roles
