I like Snow Patrol but only usually listen to their big songs for whatever reason, never delved super into them

 

4 worst songs on Red:

1. The Last Time
2. I Almost Do
3. Sad Beautiful Tragic
4. Treacherous (this song has the BEST bridge, fucking great, but the rest of the song kills it for me)

I know it's far from popular opinion, but overall I just don't think her ballads were her strong suit until maybe, Lover honestly. Of course there are exceptions, but I just don't find much of her early ballads as compelling, maybe because musically they are often one note whereas her recent albums/ballads have so much going for them musically.

I know she loves it and that it’s one of the hits, but the only song on Red I ever skip is “I Knew You Were Trouble.”

 

I always end up wishing she'd either skipped the dubsteppy influence or leaned harder into it with this one. It's definitely not a skip for me, but I never fell in love with it the way I wanted to either.

 

I’m still surprised she never worked IKYWT into something bombastic for the Rep tour.

 

you NEVER count bonus tracks in song rankings, that's why they are bonus tracks. Unless the song is amazing like "new Romantics" or "Wonderland" then you are allowed to include them in "best of" conversations as long as you state the caveat that they are bonus tracks

it is your prerogative to feel that way but that song is a beautiful encapsulation of the other side of the "we are never ever getting back together" coin, presenting the more complicated and painful reality behind the more flippant and carefree rejection of this person who has been dicking you around forever soooooo cherrypicking one line you don't like will do exactly nothing to change my assessment of the song itself

 

I just want the 10 Minute version of All Too Well so I can lay in the middle of the road during a rain storm as I sing/cry to it at the top of my lungs...

 

you're losing all credibility by comparing an actual song to a voice memo showing how she writes a song, yo. they're fundamentally not the same thing. you can't claim new romantics is the best song on 1989 and then dismiss that girl at home is the worst song on red. if girl at home doesn't count towards red, new romantics can't count towards 1989 for the exact same reason.

 

It's been lore for so long I am still kind of wrapping my head around the fact that it not only 100% still exists, but that we're gonna get to hear it.

 

To be clear, I mostly listen to that album on vinyl these days, so I usually just let the song play. But if I'm playing the album in the car or shuffling through the songs on a run...yeah, it's getting skipped.

I really think most of her songs are pretty timeless, but that song's version of dubstep really dates it, and not in a good way! I'm also just not a huge fan of the melody; it's got a similar issue to "Bad Blood" and "Me!", where it's a super sticky melody that I tend to think of as "annoying" more than "catchy."

If I recall correctly, she released like five pre-release tracks for that album (WANEGBT, Trouble, Red, Begin Again, State of Grace) and "Trouble" was the only one I wasn't immediately enamored with. I never really fell for it.

It would have been right at home, since that song predicts all the heavy-handed, overblown production that Max Martin would spew all over the first half of Reputation!

 

I want alllll the vault tracks for every album, but Debut is the only full album I'm legitimately stoked for.

 

But, like... it's so boring. If you're gonna tell a nice story, maybe do it with compelling music?!?!
