I listened for it, in loud car speakers and headphones, didn't bother me at all.

 

That's good, I'm pleased. I'm tempted to delete my post so that other people don't then listen out for it and then get annoyed by it. I've gone in and EQ'd out the squeals for my downloaded copy of it anyway (ripped from YouTube). I'm sure it's something I'd get over eventually as I usually do with these kinds of things, but it's hard to ignore sometimes when you're so tuned-in to the sound.

 

Between this song and Chris Brown getting arrested, I've had worse days

 

Really enjoyed re-reading that. Their Bleed American Review was even worse. I mean even by p4k standards, it's so hilariously condescending.

 

Their reviews for basically any Matt Pond PA album are along the same lines of vitriol. Or any earnest poprock group I suppose.

none of those records are subpar at all

 

"Sure and Certain" is on Apple Music. Yay

 

CTL could very well be their best album, and Invented and Damage are also top tier.

 

I still do not like Invented but they truly are the most universal rock band I think I've ever heard, meaning that I could show them to anyone and likely find a song they would enjoy

and that song is "The Middle." Jk.

 

I haven't even listened to these guys' last two albums but I loved them as a kid. Song sounds great. I'm on board for the new record. Will have to dive back into the discography.

 

They also hate the Get Up Kids (at least the reviewers did)

Seeing a 3/10 for Bleed American and Futures is just funny to see.

 

MAKE JIMMY EAT WORLD GREAT AGAIN

 

I have abused the replay button on this goddamn song.

 

I genuinely thought that Damage might be the last album we ever got from Jimmy Eat World - just felt like a curtain call. So it's strange and pretty exciting that "Sure and Certain" sounds like a band operating at their peak.

 

I definitely thought we were done with Jew once Jim started doing solo stuff.

this makes me super happy.

 

And when Rick opened a brewery and Zach started a new band with his wife. All signs were pointing to a demise.

 

I haven't loved any of the newer records post-Futures, but I enjoy these new songs a great deal.

 

I hope Get Right is like the "Nothingwrong" or "Just Tonight" of this album (the "heavier rock song" on a lighter, poppier rock album) because I could probably grow to appreciate it more in that context.

 

We know there is at least one song that's substantially heavier than Get Right judging by the 14 second clip that was on their website a few weeks ago. Heavy rock riffage. Get Right isn't exactly heavy either, just beefy in the lower frequencies.

 

While I know what you mean and definitely agree, Just Tonight has really grown on me as a song - they use their distorted guitars so fucking well on that track and it just soars. One of my favorites off Futures for sure.

This is one thing I'm definitely open to more of: JEW can write a happy, jangly guitar song as good as anyone, but a filthy crushing riff is something they do equally well and not nearly as often. Bring it on.

 

I'm with ya boo. Although I love this new track I hope there's some softer pop rock/instrumentally ambitious tracks like Drugs Or Me

 

Whatever you wanna call it, I still hope it's an outlier. I hope that clip they posted isn't on the album at all, personally, though that seems unlikely.

Just Tonight is a great song, I didn't include it because I dislike it but because it fits the description (Pain does to an extent as well).

Gimme another dynamic 7 minute epic like Just Watch The Fireworks or 23 pls and ty.

 

It's going to take some effort to not overplay "Sure and Certain" before the album comes out. The chorus has been stuck in my head all day.
