as a long time lurker of this site and this particular thread, I've always found this thread to be informative and educational. I can also give a relative outsider's point of view, and basically, after numerous women said how overly aggressive this place can be, and how it's not helpful, the thread has descended into those same aggressions being played out against various strawmen. the previous comment about virtue-signalling isn't a comment on anybody's morality, but merely how a lot of those same posters want to show how angry they are about things; so angry that they completely talk over or ignore people telling them that it's not helpful or that their aggression is driving people away.

very cool to see people who are usually on the money turn themselves into corncobs over people caring about issues

  3. So do we need a “lesser accountability in music” thread?

Genuinely asking. I think some stuff posted in here is silly but where else is it gonna go? We don’t need an Ian Cohen thread or Anthony Ronald McDonald thread.

Please show me where I quoted any posts of yours to imply what I said was directed at you.

Interesting that you felt it was anyway though.

what? lol maybe this isn't necessarily your fault because maybe you don't really even know the meaning of accountability to begin with.

someone losing their platform, because of something bad they said or did, is making them responsible for their actions, thus, accountability.

my man, no one expects pitchfork to tell ian cohen to stop writing for them lol

trivializing a singers depression or acting like he leans on it as a songwriting crutch before he ends up killing himself due to said depression is, indeed, scummy

the post about virtue signaling caused a non-binary person to leave the site, but sure go off

I don't think anyone is saying it shouldn't be posted in here, what's being addressed is how people respond to these issues

So what the fuck is someone supposed to do? Sharing knowledge is the first thing I can think of. Your tirade is the least helpful thing in this thread in a while.

Was not expecting all of these bizarre diatribes about "virtue signalling" to be in service of the dubious point that this thread should be used only to highlight instances of abuse, and not about other things for which people deserve to be held accountable lol. What a galaxy-brained take.

Ian Cohen isn't an abuser (that we know of) and nobody said he was. Needle Drop dude is not an abuser (that we know of) and nobody said he was. Matty Healy is not an abuser (that we know of) and nobody said he was. Nevertheless, these men have all done things for which they should be held accountable. This thread isn't just to highlight people who abuse others, it's to highlight people who abuse their platform in any way.

and you were also previously told that constant aggression is causing people to leave. tell me how you took that?

honestly, i have to ask you and a few others; do you think you're leading with empathy and compassion? if you think that's not the right approach, so be it. but this often turns into an extremely toxic thread and it seems to be the same 3 or 4 people who are always at the centre of it.

I lead with empathy and compassion for survivors of abuse. That's really it. For abusers themselves, or other non-abusers who nevertheless abuse their platform in other ways, the real question is why should the first response be "empathy and compassion"? It should be criticism and skepticism unless and until they demonstrate through true restorative actions that they deserve otherwise.

i would say i have more empathy and compassion for the people belittled by people like ian cohen and ronald mcdonald than i do for people who want to continue to read them and want to be able to do so without feeling bad about it, yeah

Yeah like we should "lead with empathy and compassion" when it comes to Anthony Needle Drop, who courts the alt-right despite claiming to be a leftist? We should "lead with empathy and compassion" when it comes to the shit Ian Cohen wrote about Scott Hutchison? Come on.

i'm talking about the people who have constantly said the aggression on here drives them away. i thought that was pretty obvious but again, like i said previously, rage against that strawman.

Is there anyone who comes into this thread and actually learns something new or changes the way they think? Cause if anything the discussions here just seem to get worse and more repetitive without actually accomplishing anything.

As a non-binary person (which I don’t like to discuss publicly but since we’re weaponizing our identities). Good to know something so innocuous that was trying to genuinely respond to someone’s question has caused such a reaction.

i have had several people message me when i have discussed the anti-semitic and black israelite issues with certain musicians over the last year that said they didn’t have any education on the issue and appreciated me bringing it up to their attention. guess i’ll hit them back up with this quote, thanks.
