Alright, I don't expect many (if any besides me) to do this due to the size of this comp, but I wanted to give feedback since I am running this now and have also listened through more times than anyone (trust me).

To start, @Roman Rogowski: I remember hearing this a couple of years ago and thinking it was one of the best things you've ever done, so having it on this comp is cool. I totally forgot about it until you emailed it to me. I've always loved your guitar tones, and I think this is one of your best vocal performances and mixes. Love you bby. :winkkiss:

@bradsonemanband: Dude, I didn't know I needed a sort of lo-fi punk cover of One Direction but you fucking killed it. I love the production style you went with on these tracks, and I love how aggressive Flavor of the Weak is. I'm really glad you're still contributing. I say this a lot, but I've always loved your stuff.

@manoverboard365: what the hell. I'm not exaggerating when I say your song has been stuck in my head since you submitted it and I listened the first time. The whole thing is sick from start to finish and is one of my favorite's I've ever heard submitted to these. Roman and I actually texted about how cool it is once he had heard it the first time. Good job!

@bobsheiskawy: This is a really cool acoustic cover. The production is super clean, and I love your voice and the layering on it. It all sounds really good together.

@straylight93: Okay, what led to you covering Dollar Signs?? Are they popular now? I used to know them through The Mineral Girls in the Charlotte music scene. I love this cover so insanely much. That end part is so cool. And then your cover of Deer is absolutely gorgeous. Your voice is fantastic, and I love the production.

@therookielot I am so happy you submitted There is the Adventure. That cover is so damn cool. I always get hype when that part at the end comes in. And then the fact you recorded that Break on Through cover on your damn Apple Watch kills me in the best way. It sounds really cool.

@accelerateto88: Apparent Halsey covers are just gold. This cover is so good. The instrumentation is killer, your voice sounds fantastic, and the production is great. (Your album on streaming services is cool as hell too, btw).

@genericities: Your covers are so beautiful. The acoustic guitar you use has a really nice tone, and your voice is cool as hell. The Adrianne Lenker cover in particular just about made me tear up. Good job! I hope to hear more from you.

@xkaylinh: I love the gritty guitar tones you used. I also love how frantic the Penelope Scott cover is. Then I really like the She-Ra theme song, and that was probably the most out of left field song on the comp (just barely edging out having a One Direction cover) and I think you did a good job with it. Made me want to check the show out.

@SmashRipsaw Okay, this is so cool. I also didn't know I needed an instrumental cover of What is Love? but I'm so happy it exists. The production is insanely good, and it's a fun little addition to the comp.

@phaynes12: I guess Manchester Orchestra songs are also gold. I love this one. It's like After the Scripture meets Cope and it works really well. I really liked hearing your take on the song. The whole thing sounds good, and your voice fits it really well.

@SAB22: Roman just texted me that you get his award for most creative/original take on the comp. I can't argue. I love what you did with the song. It's almost jarring to hear this song in a more indie/alternative rock sound, but I think it works super well. The whole thing sounds really good. Good job! It's hard to get an imaginary award like that from Roman.

@EmoEmpire: I don't know if anyone gives a shit about placement on the tracklist on these, but my philosophy is to try my best to make it sound as close to a "real" record as I can. And the moment I heard your song I knew it had to be the closer. Closers are in many ways the most important part of a record for me, it's the final impression you're left with. And I think it manages to tie up everything else on the comp really well, and it is such a great cover and I feel like it's a satisfying finale to it. I love this cover. Everything sounds top-notch.

Hopefully, I didn't miss anyone. Thank you everyone for doing this! It was really fun. Excited for the future of these. :) I'll talk about plans for the next one at some point next week most likely.

Thank you! I’d love to hear yours. I imagine it’s a little bit better than mine.

I’m currently in Salisbury, sadly. But I still go to Charlotte as much as I can. I grew up there, it’s my city. It’s cool you’re from there too. Haven’t met many Charlotte people on here. Your voice is cool as hell, I’m glad you started singing.

No, it was just a comp title suggestion so I flipped a coin between “Everything Must Go” and “Anything Must Go” that was also suggested, and Everything won. Haha

Thanks bro. This track means a lot to me. I was dedicating it to my step dad as i was creating it. He died of cancer in 2004 and he saved me and my mum when we fled my abusive biological dad. The song really fits my situation. Gave me chills recording it.

    Newbie

Thanks so much! I'm actually in Charlotte, which is how I found Dollar Signs, but they've become one of my very favorite bands. Kind of in a sweet spot somewhere between Jeff Rosenstock and AJJ in my opinion. I think they deserve to be more popular than they are, so I'm always trying to spread the gospel of Dollar Signs when I can. They put out a new album a couple months ago that is really great called Hearts of Gold, definitely check it out if you haven't heard it.

Thanks for all of your kind thoughts. I don't think of myself as much of a songwriter, but I love to play/record music, so I tend to do a lot of random covers for fun. Trying to build up my confidence/abilities re: production, so doing stuff like this is a great way to get some more practice and trying new techniques. I hope you do another compilation soon, this was great and I really enjoyed listening of everyone's stuff! My personal favorites are probably the Clairo, Halsey (both of em), Hotelier, mewithoutYou, Adrianne Lenker, and Jimmy Eat World covers, but really the whole compilation is great and shows how much talent is out there! Good work everyone.

Hey, me too! I haven’t written or recorded a single new original song in at least a year, and doing this inspired me to get back and try it. I’ll check these out later. :)
