Happening all over due to parent protests. I saw one school district somewhere here in Michigan that lifted their mandate because the students along with the parents staged a walk out at the school.

 

Yeah, I work for a school district. Surprised it took until May for this to happen tbh.

We have a board member who is very far-right and has been doing his own face mask and curfew protests all over our county for the past 7-8 months. Last week, he called for a special school board meeting to rescind our face mask policy (which is based off the state-wide mandate), but thankfully, nobody else budged (although, yes, we do have a lot of parents who don't like it).

 

Luckily the loudmouth parents here when it comes to mask mandates are fewer in numbers. But we have a school board election coming up and one of the candidates is a Trumpbot who pushed the big lie on her blog and etc. She got a lot of signs out and seems to have some momentum so I'm dreading this election. The other person running is a teacher in another district so, that's my big hope.

 

Also I would love for my district to do a "mask passport" next year since vaccines will be available to everyone HS age by then. Did you get your vaccine? cool, you don't have to wear a mask. No vaccine? Mask up, sorry bro.

I don't think it's being adequately reported how insane what's going on in Arizona is

 

Our school board was not initially a proponent of face masks. When our admin team was working on our re-opening plans and health and safety protocols last summer (prior to the state-wide face mask mandate), we initially had face masks were required in all our documents and the board fought back to have it be recommended, but not required. Thankfully, the governor issued the statewide mandate prior to schools opening so we were able to require them and the discussions between us and the board became a moot point.

Kids are never going to get vaxxed at the same rate as adults. I've already spoken to a few people who have gotten the vaccine themselves that said they wouldn't Vax their kids yet for various silly reasons.

 

Once it gets full authorization and schools/states start making it mandatory, then they won't have a choice.

But that won't happen this next school year coming up so I say go with the mask passport. Let the kids who get vaxxed go maskless. That'll get them complaining to their parents to take them to get it.

 

I cannot wait until we can get the kids vaccinated. I excitedly shared an article with my wife yesterday about Pfizer asking for expanded emergency authorization to begin vaccinating kids ages 2 thru 11. Very good news.
