The Nas album wasn’t that great but also this is the first time Nas got a Grammy which is wild

I don't much care for what feels like legacy awards, like "congrats for producing an ok/decent/mediocre piece of work when you've built up a legacy of objectively better things previously, here you go". Even if it would be for an artist I absolutely love, if they produce an album that is lesser than their previous outputs and there's albums out that year that are better than it, I don't want that artist I like to win based solely on my previous favoritism of their history.

But in the end Grammy's are Grammy's and Freddie is happy so as long as he's fine

It was a pretty good album. But regardless, nobody should give a shit about the Grammy’s.

I feel like their discographies are almost too intertwined for this to be a good matchup? I feel like it could have been them two versus another duo

There really the same except Ghostface has some borderline "pop" hits, so he has an edge

Yeah, King's Disease wasn't bad, but this was 100%, no doubt a legacy award on behalf of the Grammys, voters probably looked at the list and were like 'who the fuck are these other guys? Oh' there's Nas, he's been on our list for decades...let's...just give it to him.'

Happy for him though, sick of seeing him on the 'artists you'll never believe didn't win a Grammy' lists, haha.

I’ve still only listened to Kings Disease once. I think Hit-Boy is a very average producer, though. His album with Benny was ok, but nothing on Tana Talk 3 or The Plugs I Met.

I think Hit-Boy is pretty good as far as producers that make commercially viable “traditional rap” goes

I really can’t stand that all this shit comes around every year, I wish the Grammy’s would just go away

Honestly don't think a day has passed over the past 20 years where I haven't just randomly said 'Smoke weed every day' in a Nate Dogg voice

I’m not saying you’re wrong, but the same thing could be about said Gibbs, but I never see that anywhere. Is it because Austria is so far away for some? Not that I judge people for listening to him. I do too. It just makes me wonder sometimes.

I didn't really get into him until like late 2018, a bit before Bandana was starting to get talked about. Should have done my research more, because I was absolutely not into Nas getting it in part due to his abuse with Kelis too. So yea seems a little silly for me to say that and then go fully support Freddie.

It’s definitely something that feels like it’s actively being swept under the rug. I know for a fact that plenty of Freddie supporters in the music media etc. know about it and never mention it and still support him while not giving the same benefit of the doubt or whatever to other artists with similar stories. I don’t really understand why that is. It really does make me think it having happened in Austria rather than a more “familiar place” (US, Canada, UK etc.) is a part of it.

I’m not trying to defend Nas or to deflect by the way.
