I was told to check out Kim’s because it was another Canadian sitcom. So. Sure. I guess.

  3. Idk if anyone has mentioned The Ringmaster, but I just finished it and loved it. I prob have a little bias since a good chunk of it is set in small town Minnesota, but I thought it was a really interesting story about obsession, aspirations, failure, and ‘normal’ people.

It’s not a direct comparison or anything, but it’s kind of like Exit Through the Gift Shop meets the Fyre Fest doc(s) but with Midwestern accents and a smaller scope.

An easy and interesting watch that’s on Prime. I’d say if you start watching the trailer and feel interested enough to watch the full thing to stop before the last half, it gives away some fun moments throughout the film.

I really liked Russian Doll but I literally entirely forgot about it. I wonder why they took so long between seasons

Kim’s Convenience is amazing. I figured it was going to end now that one of the cast members is a Marvel hero.

Just learned that the actress who plays the mom in Kim’s Convenience is in S1 of The Expanse as a ship captain. Neato!

Any RIYL for Russian Doll? I passed over it so many times but on the surface didn’t think it’d be for me but it gets a lot of praise.

  8. Based on the premise, I assume it's like if Killing Eve and Groundhog Day made a collab album?

Russian Doll was ok. I remember I binged it when I was on paternity leave when this thread was hyping it.

I liked Russian Doll a lot when I first saw it. Is there a second season on the way? I didn't know that.

If you dig the recent movie Palm Springs, you'd like it. A good RIYL might also include Maniac, another great Netflix show that deserved more attention.

I wish I loved Maniac, but it was just too much "look how weird this show is!!!!" for me

I'm into weird stuff so I actually love this about it. The weirdness fit with the themes and what they were doing narratively, so it all felt like it clicked, whereas (I'm in the minority about this but ... ) the random weirdness of Lovecraft Country felt like weirdness for the sake of it, never settling on a primary tone/sense of identity.

I liked the start of Maniac but lost interest like 6 episodes in and never finished it. Need to finish it at some point.

I watched some of Maniac during a shrooms trip and I remember thinking it was impeccable lol. Extremely vague memories of what actually happened. I definitely want to rewatch the whole season again at some point.

Too bad another season isn't in the cards, but I remember it ended well. Would absolutely love to get more weird shows like that.

Not really tho. They already had fancy blimps and tanks and shit in The Last Airbender

  23. The water tribe grew like 100 fold and the modern city etc etc. It took me a handful of episodes to settle into avatar so I assume it will be the same for this.

idk, I know they never explicitly address it, but I think it would make sense that a society full of people who can easily manipulate the world and create energy from nothing would be able to scale up technologically and physical size quite easily. Especially without a war taking up everyone’s time/energy/resources. Like there’s one short scene of Mako using lightning bending to power a generator (which, if anything, the weird part there is that lightning bending became such common knowledge lol)

And it’s addressed in s2 but the northern water tribe reconnecting with the south was the big impetus for them growing exponentially as well

wasn’t it less than 70 years from the first successful airplane flight to landing on the moon?
