Edit: John Darnielle responded and I almost fainted like a lady in the 1870s.

Calling an audible and doing Confessions today, because the full expanded edition is fucking long and I'm not sure how much listening time I'll have on Saturday. Will pick up Etta James that day.

I haven't stopped doing MWE this month, as I've been writing stuff down. I've just forgotten to tweet everything out. On a cool note, apparently I *have* listened to The Roots' "Things Fall Apart" before, so that's fun.

ok WOW, the Iggy Mix completely changes everything. I'm shocked at how different the mix is, it sounds way better. Makes the album from unlistenable to great

Nearly at the end now, and today's album was One Word Extinguisher by Prefuse 73. I really can't remember where I saw this album listed, as I don't think I've ever heard of it, or what made me put it on my list, so was interested to see what it was like!

It's twitchy and glitchy instrumental hip hop beats, meets discordant Aphex Twin style aggressive electronica, all with fairly unconventional song structures and forms. There's a hint to some jazzy basslines and drums too.

It's all a bit hectic, there's 26 tracks including interludes, and some tracks that last no more than a minute, but it's an hour long album, so there's a lot to take in, especially as it never sits still or is consistent.

It's a great show-reel of production skills, but I'm not really sure how much I took in on a first listen, because it really was all over the place. Interesting in parts though!

Prefuse 73 did an EP with The Flaming Lips a bit back which I remember being pretty out there

  7. Definitely late to checking this band out, but this album is really cool.

Listening to this now too! I wasn’t aware there were multiple mixes, so I imagine I’ve only heard the Bowie one. I’m enjoying this album more than the last time I listened to it as well!

I started listening to the Bowie mix and could not understand how it was a punk classic with such low energy, but the Iggy mix makes much more sense, very powerful

listened to Faces - Ooh La La today, pretty solid stuff all together. It also took me down a wikipedia rabbit hole because I didn't know Rod Stewart was in the band, or that they previously were New Faces and that two bands basically combined to become Faces. Anyway, it was all pretty interesting to me

last one for today, The Velvet Underground - Squeeze. If you take away the strained history of this album, and not worry about "who" released it... it's pretty good! Kinda scrappy, but some well crafted songs, this one kinda surprised me.

Anything from when they became just Faces (with Stewart and Ronnie Wood) and Rod's early solo stuff (which basically had the same personnel) are all so good.

Truth is a killer album, but I don’t love it as much as A Nod’s A Good As a Wink, Never a Dull Moment or especially Every Picture Tells a Story

I really really really liked The Waterboys' This Is The Sea and I think a few folks here would too!

RIYL: Springsteen, U2, The Killers meet Placebo, massively ambitious rock anthems

Def the most right-down-the-middle-of-my-tastes favorite album I’ve listened to this MWE.

This morning I was just thinking the same regarding fatigue in listening to the new music...then I started my album for the day Patti Smith's Horses and the first track just pumped me and got me ready for the rest.....only two days left!
