I distinctly remember the day they released the video for Simple Math. I watched like like four times in a row, and then when I saw my wife after work, I made her watch it. That was the day MO went from a band I liked a lot to one of my favorite bands on the planet. And I loved that record so much that it made me revisit the first two more, just because I wanted to listen to the band so much, and that’s when those albums clicked into ‘these are perfect’ territory in my brain also.

Are we all done with the top 3 songs from each album? I've got the excel spreadsheet here with the results

A Black Mile was that watershed moment for me with the band.

I enjoyed each of their albums, to the extent that I spun them rather regularly, but they weren't in "heavy" rotation, if that makes sense.

I've been waiting patiently for their follow up album, and loved when Andy said a couple months ago that this is almost like a new sophomore album to their second phase as a band. It perfectly articulated how I feel about them, and would definitely say that they're in my top three favorite bands now.

My experience with the band is a variation on your theme.

I was heavily invested with Virgin through METN. Walked away with Simple Math. Completely ignored Cope and Hope. Revisited Simple Math and it clicked. Dove in head first with Black Mile. Still have no interest in Cope / Hope though.

And that quote from Andy is cool and exciting.

    u wut m8?

COPE always felt like it was missing something. I have no idea how to articulate it but none of the songs ever really stuck with me which was so so so disappointing because Virgin, METN, and Simple Math are like some of my favorite records. I keep trying to make a COPE/HOPE combined record with the best versions of each song but it still never clicks. I keep going back to it all the time and it just all blurs together.

HOPE while lying in bed at night. COPE while driving fast on a road trip. That's how they clicked for me.

HOPE was released two weeks after our first child was born. I cannot tell you how many nights I spent sitting in my son's room at night rocking him to sleep to HOPE.

As much as I love every album, I feel like if I do this I am basically just going to end up with the tracklist to Black Mile...

I basically don't consider COPE to be part of their discography. That's how disappointed I was with that album. It's still fine once and a while but I'd never recommend it to anyone if I was introducing Manchester to them.

I’ve never listened to it front to back and honestly only like Top Notch and Cope with enough confidence to put on a top 3 so I just picked a random 3rd song for the ranking..lol

COPE is easily the band's worst album, but I still find a lot of enjoyment in it.

That is how good Manchester Orchestra is.
