this post is everything I feel. I have realized that Buddy is suuuper loud about things on social media and rarely ever actually follows through in the way he makes it sound. Like, he throws up songs he’s going to play on a set list and it catches my eye because it’s a ton of dope deeper cuts... but then he plays one or two per night of the 10 he posts, and some are only played once the entire tour, or not at all. Ya know? He does stuff like that. I, too, love the Fire-Renacer era, but I think Thorns is pretty mediocre aside from a couple songs. The passion that went into it I can give him credit for, I love how bold he was. I just don’t love the end result... but I was unbelievably excited for it from how passionate he was about it on social media.

Regarding ITIL, I think what that album is for me- it’s the start of me really being excited about Senses Fail singles rather than the entire album top to bottom. I think the singles are great, but there’s a lot of tracks I’d be fine with throwing away. I’m not sure how that’ll work if they throw a million songs at me at once like he kinda suggests with making two albums or whatever, but maybe he’ll surprise me eventually again.

You’re absolutely right about Renacer vs Thorns. The latter has grown on me over the years but Renacer still reigns supreme musically because of the atmosphere and guitar riffs. I think Buddy writing the guitars ended up hurting him big time. I think having Zack and Matt help write guitars would have made Thorns a better follow up to Renacer.. oh well.

Unfortunately, it seems so. A lot of former scene kids are straight up toxic douchebags who refuse to actually grow up. It’s a shame to say the least.

Buddy stated on a couple podcasts that Hell Is In Your Head will feel more like a complete journey and will be heavier than the last album. Similar to still searching but nothing like “heavy” senses fail.

And yeah, Buddy is the worst on social media. He went on and on about playing deep cuts on the last tour and even made t shirts for songs they never ended up playing. I get he has a family to support, but just be quiet then. The people who want to hear can’t be saved are going to come regardless. I still hope they do a run of playing all their records. Even if they play in a bar, I’d go see album shows for LINAWR-PTTFYH

Because what he tried to do got negative fan reaction, majority of the fans wanted the hits so that's really not his fault

He didn’t have to listen. What about the fans that went to hear those songs? It’s false advertising.

It's easier said than done, it's not his fault fans are entitled and don't appreciate cool things. He has to sell tickets.

They already had tickets lol. Fuck them

I remember going to see Say Anything on their rarities tour and had no idea bc my friend bought the tickets. I was bummed but didn’t boo or quit liking the band. I agree with you btw, but I wish he stuck to his guns.

also, Buddy always says the record is going to sound like one thing and it never does. He should just do what he’s going to do and stop talking about it

I mean to be fair most bands say said album is going to sound like one thing and never does.

If the band continued to go in the heavy direction they would have broken up. They don’t really fit into the Metalcore/Hardcore scene well and that fad had already passed as well. Even if they have a few heavier songs or moments throughout their discography, all of the hits are catchy and lean more towards pop punk. You can’t pay the bills and support a family by playing bars and that’s the direction they would have went. Playing all of those anniversary tours helped the band stay somewhat relevant and maintain a good portion of their longtime fans. It’s the smartest business decision to allow them to continue to make music and tour.

They had to rely on nostalgia like a lot of legacy bands do so it makes sense. It’s the same reason Bayside plays the same songs over and over again live. They know that’s what fans want to hear and helps them sell tickets. As much as we may love the bands deep cuts, those are not going to sell tickets for most bands in the mid 2000’s post hardcore/emo scene. A lot of fans of that era only know the most popular albums unfortunately and they want to hear music that is similar to those albums. Especially with a band like SF whose heavier albums don’t sound like anything else they’ve done.

This sounds better than any song off Light IMO so I’m a little interested in hearing this record now.

funny how different people’s tastes are with sf. to me, nothing touches ss and linawr. I’ll support this band no matter what though.

I prefer poppy SF and feel like as time went on Buddy lost his ability to write catchy stuff. LIEY may have had questionable lyrics but every song on that album was catchy as hell. ITIL was so damn boring.
