plus with NY being an at-will employment state combined with not having a maternity leave law (that I know of, please someone correct me), it's probably pretty easy to find those loopholes

It's doubly worse bc she had a kid and they're expensive. She might not be able to afford to be unemployed.

  3. Yup. However, sometimes even companies in at-will states have internal policies communicated to their employees that negate the at-will status and can render firings illegal. That's how my friend got a 30k settlement for wrongful termination from the Coffee Bean even though California is an at-will state.

However, that's because she was able to prove they'd violated their own policy. I'd imagine that's harder to do in this case, when all the company has to do is argue it was a financial decision (harder to get away with when you're talking about someone who was making minimum wage).

Oh boy, Washington Post can have some brilliant articles and the most tone deaf bullshit in the span of a week.

re: Washington Post article, I do not understand the argument being presented by that piece, like at all. especially coming from a publication that spent just as much time covering, for instance, the Stanford rape trial and aftermath as anyone else. How you don't walk away from that with a more critical understanding of consent and how it is defined is inexcusable. Basic understanding of consent unravels the whole argument.

    Really irresponsible of WaPo imo

It reminds me of that episode of the Simpsons where Marge paints Mr. Burns in the nude

I think Trump's internal ugliness is quite apparent through the policies he endorses. The statues seem to be about embarrassing him due to his body type and that just ends up enforcing the sort of norms that lead people to think particular body-types are the result of personal failures/choices people made.

I must live under a rock bc this is the 1st time I've heard about it. Trump sucks but so does this statue. I don't agree with it at all.

And it's gross that the ten or so earliest comments in Facebook are "who is she?" or "who would want to see that [her leaked photos]" like guys. Seriously?

Sad, frustrated. Ultimately I get what the goal of the artist was but the end result is that people with small genitalia are shit on, and that just reinforces body shaming and biological norms. Trump is a caricature of himself as is, but certainly there are more cogent ways to caricature him than simply going for what's easy. Even if one argues that Trump, particularly because of the debate statement on his genitalia, wants us to focus on his genitalia, there are other less traditionally caricatured body parts that are more ideologically relevant to him, like his hands, that would make a much more sensible caricature.

I'm a little more tolerant of the painting because I think it's not as openly central on his genitalia and has a better statement on his expressions, but this statue just doesn't make sense artistically or as a statement, and at the end of the day the statue basically says the same shit we've already heard, and it hurts men and women who are already self conscious about their bodies.

My brain exploded when I read it. Seems it would be top priority to check this stuff out. Kesha's lawyer should have dug it up too if that's possible.
