I absolutely love how during press tours he bashed the hell out of his character and the movies. He legitimately did a fantastic job of getting me to like him seeing how honest he felt about the movies haha.

I remember that at one point I had about ten shows I was following and it felt really annoying to have to remember to watch Show A on Monday, Show B on Thursday, and so on. I decided to stop a few years ago and just finish with the shows I had already started. BoJack Horseman was the last show I was following, unless I keep going with South Park, which has been a chore for a few years now.

The episode format forces in a lot of filler. Despite the freedom of the Internet, most shows still follow pretty close to the episode length of 22 or 44 minutes and a stable number of episodes. Back when Twin Peaks was airing it felt frustrating to have to wait a week for more Dougie stuff, but when you watch it at a natural pace it makes more sense what Lynch was going for.

The Simpsons has never been as good as Futurama was

The golden age of the Simpsons is an embarrassment of riches. They were doing 22-24 episodes a year and hitting it out of the park on almost every episode.

To be fair, I have never done a full run of Futurama. I am just trying to finish King of the Hill and it has gotten so bad near its end.

Yeah I do realize it's probably unpopular, but Futurama has always kept me more engaged, and episodes like the one with Fry's brother, Hubert's parents, and Fry's dog move me to tears.

Simpsons definitely has moving episodes too and tons of classics. But idk, recently I rewatched the first Treehouse of Horror (my favorite), and then when I let the rest of S2 play, I kept zoning out on my phone. What seasons in particular were considered "golden age" for them? Been years since I've given their other older episodes a watch

Futurama is way overrated and Simpsons gets shit on even though for the first ten years they had some incredible episodes.

futurama is not better than peak simpsons

i wouldn't say it is particularly close, even just among fox cartoons

Seasons 2-10 (roughly) of the Simpsons could be the best tv comedy of all time. Like Morrissey said, an embarrassment of riches.

I feel like I remember loving my Simpsons S3 box set as a kid, maybe I'll rewatch that next and see how I feel about that one compared to my S2 rewatch :-p

There's super good stuff in the first two seasons but yeah 3-10 is probably untouchable, I love Futurama and King of the Hill but I don't think any similar show comes close.

Season Nine is where you start to see it begin to slip.

I literally just learned that King of the Hill was believed to be done after 7. Per an article on Cracked “the offices had been shut down and moved out of before learning the show had been renewed”. So if the quality or story telling dips from seasons 8-10 that’s probably why or at least plays a part.

Futurama is overall the better show and that mostly has to do with the fact that the Simpsons is now a show that is mostly not very good. Peak Simpsons > Futurama for sure but like, judging as a WHOLE....the Simpsons did themselves a disservice continuing on for this long.

For some reason the Simpsons never tried to make any sort of broader character arcs that gave Futurama a lot of its heart.

Futurama has some absolutely terrible episodes though like the one where they become superheroes. So so bad.

The entirety of The Simpsons versus the original run of futurama perhaps, but s3 - s10/11 of simpsons is quite an achievement for any genre of show

It probably isn't fair to compare a show to the total run of the Simpsons because it is pretty widely understood that when people talk about the Simpsons they are cutting it off two decades ago.
