I don't think I've ever discovered a band or an artist from a show or a movie. I have discovered many artists that I enjoy as openers to bands I go see (Manchester Orchestra being one of them in 2007, Jimmy Eat World in 2001, MCR in 2002, plenty of others)

But since you mentioned Sons of Anarchy, one of my favorite stories from John Nolan is that some SOA fans went out and purchased Prepare to Be Wrong by Straylight Run after Big Shot/Hands In The Sky appeared on an episode, and then reviewed the album poorly because they only knew that few minute snippit (which is the heaviest the band ever was) but the album itself is mostly piano-based and melodic.

As a fan of Noah, Social D and Straylight, I just watched the full run of Sons for the first time ever and it’s cool to hear songs from artists you like on soundtracks.

But generally, the only song I have discovered from a soundtrack I had not heard before was Travis “Love Will Come Through” from the Garden State soundtrack, which was carefully crafted by Zach Braff who was basically involved in every part of that movie. And with that said, I didn’t seek out more content from the band or anything really. I just worked so well with the movie that I had linked my like for both.

I used to discover way more music from compilations than soundtracks. I realize the emphasis is t really on comes anymore though.

I was aware of the National, but kept hearing their songs in movies and tv shows and was always like, “oh shit, I like that” which I think eventually led to them clicking for me. I believe the first song that clicked was I Need My Girl being featured on The Mindy Project.

I discovered Jimmy Eat World in Midnight Club: DUB Edition. Rockstar's racing game where you could customize your cars. Have heard a few people discovered Manchester from an NHL game that had April Fool (?) in it.

I discovered Bayside from a video game in 2006. And Two Door Cinema Club from a video game around 2010.

    Motel. Money. Murder. Madness.

Korn broke into my 12 year old world with ATV Offroad Fury 2.

Obviously I already knew Korn, but that song ruined my tv speakers.

The only thing that confuses me is all of the clips are from black mile. Could this be a live album to hold people over until the new one?

Isn’t that the intro to The Moth playing in the background? Live album???

We reach for the longest shadow

This was my thought. The clips lead me to believe that, this would be a weird teaser for a new album using clips from ABMTTS

the only way I could see that is if it was some sort of continuation of Black Mile narratively or thematically, but I don’t really see MO doing that.

I think the load in and the Atlanta flyover sorta gives it that indicator.

I would assume it’s a ~REAL~ live album, merch, vinyl, cd, streaming, etc.
