keep seeing tweets asking why he didn't just sue for defamation if the narrative was indeed false. i don't think it's enough for him to simply make a statement if the situation is fabricated, and as awards season progresses, i think more conversations around his potential involvement with Manson will pick up traction.

Isn't that whole video making fun of Manson? Trent has definitely been vocal about Manson being a piece of shit. Doesn't mean what was written in his autobiography isn't true about Trent but he did deny it back then as well.

Edit: not the music video but the lyrics to the song have been speculated to be about Manson. Didnt realize he directed the video though

 

Manson is the director of the video and in the video. They had a falling out and briefly renewed their friendship when doing this video and then Trent stopped fucking with him again.

 

I heard a story about how Trent broke a priceless guitar of Manson’s guitarist and laughed about it and obviously all the drug stuff but I don’t think I’ve heard of Trent being that awful though.

 

Just to clarify, Robert Hales directed the “Starfuckers” video. Manson’s appearance was meant as a complete surprise when it premiered on TRL because their feud was so intense. They performed the song live once, the Trent got sober and realized Manson was still a giant piece of shit.

 

Yeah I don’t want to say that Trent still couldn’t have done all those things, because we can’t be surprised by men in music anymore. However I also don’t think that Marilyn Manson is perhaps the most reliable and ethical reporter in the situation.

 

I’ve been reading more about the Manson stuff and I’ve come across some stories about Trent and him treating their old guitarist Daisy Berkowitz like shit and essentially forcing him out of the band. Not sure if that’s what your referencing?

I am inclined to trust Trent on this one, as someone who has read the autobiography I would take everything in it with a massive grain of salt. many things in it are there just to shock you (it was released near his peak of shocking) and many things have already been uncorroborated or proved false. Unless someone else comes forward I don't think we should hold a toxic persons word against him, it sounds like the whole situation has been quite painful for him overall.

Also the nerve to release an autobiography like 4 years into being famous is quite strange lol

 

Not really, people do that all the time.

 

But this whole situation really sucks I was a really big fan in highschool and defended him hard against the haters because he always seemed more sensible than his insane act and had interesting interviews and perspectives, but now I just feel dumb.

As someone who has no personal stake in this situation (not a fan of Manson or Reznor, although I've enjoyed Reznor's film and TV scores), I'm inclined to agree with @angel paste. Not sure we should take the word of a known manipulator and abuser over Reznor's at this point.

Now, if the woman in the story, or another person, ever came forward and corroborated those or other similar stories it would be a different matter of course.

 

I mean I get it, but also no need to feel dumb. I was fascinated by him too growing up. Clearly he's an intelligent guy. But that's also the mark of master manipulators, y'know? They lure you in before showing their true colors.

 

Yeah I know I just feel dumb wasting so much energy trying to prove he wasn't a monster to people when he was lol. It's just like all the energy I spent trying to prove kanye wasn't a piece of shit. It's now all simply lost in the ether.

 

Not saying Trent is a saint because he’s not but I do find it hard to believe or perhaps accept that he could be a predator or do predatory things.

 

Anybody can be a predator or do predatory things. I'm just not going to trust Manson's word on this issue because there's literally no reason to. If anyone came forward and said Reznor had abused them I would believe them.
