never thought I'd hear the word "oubliette" in a Weezer song

 

This is a great dissection of what makes Pacific Daydream so good

 

the numbers lives up to the hype, holy shit.

 

On one hand I feel like I'm listening to a Rivers Cuomo therapy session.

On the other hand I feel like I'm listening the Ok Human: The Musical soundtrack.

I am intrigued.

I am very much in the camp of Pacific Daydream being underrated. I think it’s a more well-executed version of Make Believe.

 

Downloaded it but won't have time to listen until this evening. Hyped for this!

Just started. I really like “Aloo Gobi” and “Numbers”. I don’t think I need to hear “Grapes if Wrath” ever again.

 

Actually just revisited PD a couple days ago on a friend’s recommendation and it was definitely a lot better than I remembered.

 

same. I thought it sucked so hard when it came out - listened last night and it was much more pleasant than I remembered.

 

Been playing their discography a bunch of times over the last 2 weeks, and my takeaways have been that PD is better than I remember, Raditude actually has some fun songs on it, Green isn't as amazing as I remembered, and Hurley & Black are much worse than I remembered. I think I'd actually rank Raditude above Hurley

 

Gonna continue on my discography run before i get to this. Up next, Make Believe. If I don't post in a few hours, I fell asleep listening to it.

 

Just got through Red, which was mostly unpleasant.

Raditude starts off... rough, except for If You’re Wondering. I’ve reached the “woof” chapter of their discography.

 

it’s a fine album

 

“Here Comes the Rain” and “La Brea Tar Pits” are the best 2 songs on the record. (Well idk, I do like “Aloo Gobi” and “Numbers”)

needed more songs like those throughout the record tbh. It does kind of fall into that same-y mode. It’s a pretty safe record, but very solid. Destined to be the 5th-6th best Weezer record. But it’s enjoyable.

that’s after one listen.

 

This is pretty good. It's definitely better than PD and Black, both of which I revisited last week and were even worse than I remembered. (Other than Mexican Fender. That song is surprisingly good.)

 

This album is cool. Dead Roses is fun. I like the whole concept and it's even a little different than I expected.

 

I don't necessarily agree with the sentiment, but I definitely connect the records sonically, probably because both sound like a relatively solid attempt to capture what was happening on alt/pop radio at the time while still sounding like Weezer

 

Also listened to Black this morning and the reason it works is that it may be the definitive "weird" Weezer album, and that in itself winds up being a lot more fun than another Hurley or something. Breaks up their attempts at recapturing their old magic and just gives into what they wanted to do at the time.
