If Blue didn’t exist, Green would be their perfect pop rock record

What. How in the world is Raditude safe? I can get the argument for Make Believe, but come on. Raditude was a super huge risk for them even if sucks.

Is Maladroit on vinyl (that’s not a billion dollars on ebay)

I’m of the unfortunate opinion that Weezer’s first 4 albums perfected all the sounds that they try to accomplish. Everything that follows is just a less good version of what came before. Even the later albums I like aren’t anywhere near as good as the pop rock on Blue and Green, and they’ll never be as dark as Pink or weird as Mal again. Maybe they’ll surprise me.

i do think white showed a different land for them that didn’t follow the mold of one of the first four and, again while it isn’t on par with that, all my favorite songs isn’t either. otherwise i mostly agree.

Jacked Up is probably the best mix of weird and good that they’ve had since Maladroit. I forgot how many stinkers are on the White album, though

Was at that show! Great memory, and it was really cool coming back to MSG a couple months later to see Oasis do it for real.

I've seen Weezer live a boatload of times (10 maybe?), but that MSG show on the Red tour was definitely their best.

Speaking of the Red tour, I was so bummed I didn't get to go to a Hootenanny show

Just noticed that all the color variants are sold out. Good for them, already starting off with 4500 copies sold, not including standard black and cd pre orders.
PD and Black were their first albums in forever that didn't debut in the top 10 (maybe even top 5?). Would love to see OK and Van have strong opening weeks.

If this whole album is as good as the new song I will be firmly in camp New Weezer > Old Weezer

I’ve seen Weezer three times... but not since 2005.

That’s wild to think it’s been that long but also kind of great because it was before they got so cover-heavy.

I’ve seen them 6 times. Local fair in 2010, 2013-2015, with Panic at the Disco in 2016 and Coachella 2019.

I'm not gonna be able to explain this right but I think everything that makes early Weezer magic and post original breakup Weezer not magic you can hear in this song:

At its core it's not really far afield of other 90s alternative pop rock but there's this hint of energy and darkness that elevates the shit out of it. It's blatant here but still all over the blue album and in some way it's in Pinkerton the way that record gets flat out weird. While there is so much on the next two records that is great, and even beyond that a ton of songs that show Rivers never lost his ability to write, I'm not sure there's even an ounce of this song in 2000s and 2010s Weezer.

You could take every amazing pop song or 1994 callback from the 2000 and beyond discography, strip away all the stupid like the Miss Sweeney and Da Vinci verses while keeping the good parts, and you'd have an awesome record but it'd still be missing something.

The thing it would be missing is immaturity.

If there’s a macro division in the band’s catalogue for me, it’s the pre-meditation era and everything after, like 2003 or whenever

I think I've seen them four times, the most recent being 2019. They're a terrific live band. Rivers has really become a fantastic front person.

I just wish they would explore more of their catalogue live instead of playing covers. Covers, at least in their case, feel like wasted space that could be used for literally any other songs in their vast discography.

I love how sincere Make Believe is. If I listen to it in the wrong mood it’s kind of an eye roller, but once in a while it’s a real zen reality check

Mexican Fender is a super underappreciated Weezer song.
