Breaking up state EC votes into districts just makes it easy to gerrymander and make lesser-populated areas even more influential

imagine we see a lot more states do this too. anything to deny the will of the people.

of course, while conservatives will push for this in states like Michigan and Wisconsin, they'll somehow argue that Florida and Ohio should stay winner take all.

I've said since 2016 that if they wanted to do something other than just abolishing the EC, then allocate them proportionately. That way, every state still does matter. California still matters to Rs because the more votes they get the more EV they get, same goes for red states for dems, they still care because a closer race means they get more EV. This winner take all system has never made sense. Why allocate proportionally in the primaries and then not in the general?

Doesn't solve the problem of smaller states like Wyoming having more influence than more populated states like CA, but it is still better than what we have.

A very simple but obviously controversial way for states to work around the EC would be for a state to simply say “Whoever wins the popular vote, they get all our EC votes.” Winner-take-all pushed to the max
