Yes, and when I feel people are ignorant to the issues that plague our nation, I'd probably offer the same correction you did. But I don't think that pertains to most of the regulars and semi-regulars in this thread, iamNex included. I am sure they are well aware of the fucked up legacy of American history. But they also have an outsiders perspective of our nation which, from what I've heard and read from interviews and stories of other foreigners, seems to allow them to appreciate some of the "good" parts of America's existence, too, in ways we probably can't as much because, well...we live here and we are confronted with it daily.

It's okay sometimes to understand that, sometimes, people actually do like some things about us, even if overall we are hated for very good reason. I don't blame people for getting emotional watching this, because it's like watching the fall of someone you looked up to, or meant something to you, or meant something to your family as iamNex alluded to, etc.

We don't always have to be Randy Quaid from Major League 2. Sometimes we can just offer our support.

Real talk, have a discussion with your kids. This is a historic event and an upsetting one. When 9/11 happened, my teacher had a whole class where we just got to sit and discuss what happened, just trying to process it. Now I’m not gonna compare this to 9/11 obviously but just talk to them.
