Haven't seen anything about this referendum to indicate it was similarly questionable to past ones and thus shouldn't be taken seriously. Just because past referendums have been questionable doesn't guarantee this one was.

The text of this referendum was literally "Should Puerto Rico be immediately admitted into the Union as a state?" according to Ballotpedia.

Could not have been more clear. No multi-part questions with confusing yes/no options.

Ok so let’s hope they get seated, at the earliest, December 2021. At that point we can really start pushing the Dems to get stuff done. Then when it hits 2022 we’re in midterms season so we will need to lay off them

 

Interesting the urban/rural split on the vote. Urban areas by and large went anti-statehood. Still, only 52% turnout, probably because it’s non-binding anyway.
