In college I had a friend from Miami who was shocked that a lot of us (at a school in Indiana) had not gone to Disney World, or have only gone once or twice max. She didn't seem to get that her geographic proximity to it meant it was the obvious place for her parents to take her every year

I think there is a distinction between people who take an annual trip to have fun/have a yearly thing to do with the family, and the people who go because they are obsessed with Disney in general. The latter is what I think the majority of you in here are talking about. Personally I go for Star Wars, the candy shop in Disney Springs and the bread pudding at Raglan Road. There are normal people who like going to the parks lol

Even if you do live close to it, it's still a damn ripoff and hard for the average person to afford. I did go when I was in 2nd grade though, but in retrospect, it was probably not the greatest idea for my parents to take us when we were too young to remember a ton of it lol

Yeah it isn't like Star Wars where they also try to roll out a whole new merchandise line and it becomes a reinvigorated franchise.

Though maybe Power Rangers is a bad example because apparently it never really died. Somehow they churn out a whole new series every year. But I've always had little cousins -- youngest right now being like 5 or 6 -- and I don't think any of them have cared about them since I was a kid

I don’t remember a lot about Fuller House, even though I think I might’ve ended up seeing the whole first season? lol. But, yeah, I’d be fine with agreeing that Fuller House in particular (& probably some other examples) fits what you’re describing. Though, Full House was more of a kid-friendly show targeted to families than a full on kids show, in a model that doesn’t seem to really exist anymore, so it’s kind of a weird example all around.

I guess my counter argument would just be that Fuller House didn’t have to be that. The idea of reviving an old family or kids program for a new generation isn’t a bad one, if it’s done well.

2023 will be the 30 year anniversary of Power Rangers and they just announced a whole new project with a new TV series as well as movies. Plus they have the Boom Studios comics. I don't think the franchise is going anywhere

pre-pandemic it cost $18 a month to go to disneyland and all my friends had passes so we’d go once or twice a month (it was easy because we could drive there and back home the same day)

one person in the group was a huge adult disney fan but for most of us in the group we just liked going on rides with friends

This is fair. I live in Dallas and used to go to Six Flags just about every year even though I don't even really like roller coasters. It was just something to do. Though Disney seems a lot less affordable.

I have an annual pass to Universal Studios. We go as a fairly large group, and we usually have one group of adults shepherd the kids around while the others maybe go on a handful of rides but mostly eat and drink. Universal skews a little older than Disney, though, and I would not go to the theme park by myself and probably not without the kids.

It is definitely less affordable. I think the cheapest route is doing the park hopper and not staying at a Disney hotel. The annual pass is worth it if you live close enough, but their normal prices are insane.

We took a four-day trip to Busch Gardens and stayed at a Red Roof Inn, with a massage, Habachi, casino, and a bunch of other shit for the same price as the annual pass lol

Edit: actually it was cheaper. I think it ended up being like $800/1000 total

I literally got in for free and we still could only afford it a couple times.

So was the dunking on Pixar just to say that all Disney fanatics are freaks? Because I can get on board with that without discounting the quality of Pixar movies.

The properties might skew older but the rides themselves and everything else doesn’t, imo. Harry Potter and Halloween Horror Nights are very fun though. Can’t remember if The Mummy is Universal or IOA.

I don’t have kids, but I would go to Disney with my girlfriend just us probably once a year once the kids got older and wouldn’t lose their shit about us not bringing them lol.

I will say, I cannot stand Magic Kingdom. The rest of the parks are soooo much better. Hall of Presidents and Haunted Mansion are the only things there that I like

They managed to turn Halloween into a monthlong adventure. We are living in a world of anticipation for a holiday.

I'll let holidays be if they're like, people who were deprived of that stuff as a child. But largely yes I hate them

I think it was Patton Oswalt that said it, but I agree with him that, after the age of 21, you only get to celebrate your decade birthdays.
