What makes you find this to be weird?

I also love it but it feels like the same vibe as folklore. I’m not getting anything too different and the whole album has a similar feel to folklore to me.

 

about halfway through this and so far I think I like it more than folklore. it feels vaguely less...sleepy? than that album and quite a bit sharper. I didn't listen to the former all that much though so I might be off base.

 

I think it's safe to say at this point that I am not latching on with this anywhere near as much as I did Folklore. It's a "better" album than Lover (maybe Reputation too), but I can't find any highs to match the highs of either of those albums either. I'm gonna definitely spend more time with it because I agree that it is "challenging" to an extent, but yeah. I'm not in love with it like other people are, which is a bummer!

 

folklore is still on constant rotation in my car. it's literally the only CD i've had in the stereo since it came out. so digging deep into evermore is kind of overwhelming right now. i've only listened to it one and a half times. i think i'll be able to really dig into it after friday when i pick the CD up from Target and switch folklore out for it.

 

My wife will spin the new Taylor album on repeat any time we go anywhere in her car, so I'm sure I am going to be hearing this a lot. Gimmie 2 weeks and I'll come back with a different opinion

 

Yeah, so far this one doesn't have the same magic as folklore for me. Some lovely songs for sure, and some that atm just sound like retreads of the last album.

 

My fiancee played it through four times yesterday around the house. I know how I feel about Taylor albums FAST. Haha

 

The run of Coney Island to the end is really good. Marjorie is becoming a standout

 

"Marjorie" is devastating. Paired with Springsteen's "Ghosts" and "See You in My Dreams" as much needed songs for dealing with loss.

 

It's weird, I think this is objectively better but I'm less grabbed so far, too. When Folklore came out I was suuuper into it for that whole first month, with this I feel like there are more things vying for my attention (both musical and life in general). I'm at 3 listens which feels low. But every song is good, it doesn't drag, and I think AD brought more to the table here.

The only thing it doesn't match is the Mirrorball/Seven back to back - I think that's the peak of her whole catalog, honestly.

 

This is pretty great, enjoying this a lot.

I think “Tolerate It” might be my favorite song on here. Love it.

 

I wasn’t really feeling this on Friday. Listening again this morning and I’m way more into it. No body no crime is awesome but feels out of place. Closure is such a cool song.

I've decided I need the three album thing to be factual because evermore distinctly feels like a middle album to me. When I listen to it or folklore, I'm listening to them in the context of them being a trio and I can't seem to stop myself. Fingers crossed the swiftie sleuths are right or this is going to be quite awkward for my brain to unpack in about 6 months.

This is very much a “I heard from a friend that knows someone that knows someone” kinda of thing but I’ve heard that both AD and JV have become involved in the re-recording or her past material

These are my tiers when I force myself to do 5 each tier.

Tier 1: gold rush, no body no crime, ivy, marjorie, closure
TIer 2: willow, evermore, long story short, coney island, happiness
Tier 3: champagne problems, cowboy like me, tolerate it, 'tis the damn season, dorothea

It feels very wrong to call some of those songs bottom tier though and this is also still changing every listen

 

Folkore just seemed so unique to the time we are in and just kind of really was an escape for everyone. Maybe if this was released later on it would be better. Maybe I’m a Folklore fan and not a Taylor Swift fan. Never listened to her before this and guess maybe why this one doesn’t click as much.

Really love Marjorie and Happiness. I think having those two on Folklore instead Illicit Affairs would have made that a perfect album for me. No body, no crime is by far the worst on both outputs for me. Also Evermore (the song) doesn’t hit as hard as I hoped.

 

Am I the only one who hears Avril Lavigne's "Complicated" in the intro of "no body, no crime"? I don't know that much about music theory but is it the same thing but in the minor key?

not to be dramatic but this thread (not just this post) is going to leave me staring into the void muttering "there are no bad opinions" over and over again in an endless cycle of anguish

 

I'll start this again with the fact that I like evermore, a lot, but... been thinking a lot about why it's not hitting me the same way as folklore.

One thing about this album that I think makes it harder for me to connect is that it's not as dynamic musically, while the music may be a bit more layered, the song structures are most all a straight line from start to finish. It's more of a musical bed being created that Taylor sings over. Nothing wrong with this of course, but I tend to like music where the songs themselves are a bit more dynamic. Songs like august, exile, invisible string, betty, and more on folklore feel like multiple things happen in the song, and they're made up of multiple parts that fit together perfectly. most songs on evermore are made up of music that could almost be looped the entire runtime and Taylor's vocals are the only instrument that does anything dynamic.

I see a lot of people saying that this album is more challenging than folklore, but I don't feel that way, this feels like the safer album after folklore expanding the sound in multiple directions.
