Someone mentioned they can't wait to sing a certain part of a song in a stadium with 100,000 other people in... what line was that and what song was that in? I can't figure out what it was or why that stood out only 3 listens in.

After a few listens, I think tis the season is the song that stands out the most on this for me. Everything about it just hits me right.

Did another play through tonight with a good pair of headphones. Marjorie really climbed up my ranking.

The coney / ivy / cowboy triumvirate is my favorite run on the record. Really, the run from coney to the end of the record is just a tour de force.

Every now and then I have to remember to step back and just be in awe of this woman. It’s so easy to take for granted her immense talent.

  9. Just seen this thread so I'll take the time to catch up on all the pages later, but I just wanted to write some quick thoughts. This album is a triumph, and this entire era has been a creative peak. folklore turned me from a mild fan to a full blown stan, and to then find out evermore is even better... thank you Taylor for writing the soundtracks to my seasonal depression.

I skipped right to Coney Island / Evermore....

    Choice quotes -
"I didn't know The National was a guy"

"the title track, Evermore, featuring BAHN EYE-VER."

A subtle reminder that Justin still very much operates in the "indie" world.

Haven’t had a chance to really listen to this yet (what I heard obviously rules). Just jumping in to say some of these opener & closer takes are wild to me, lol.

“Change” especially deserves more respect, even if it’s only the second best closer on that album. “The Best Day” is the real closer, imo, with “Change” feeling more like an epilogue, bonus track, end credits like song. It is a satisfying last hurrah to that album, though.

Fearless kind of runs out of steam toward the end; last two tracks are my least favorites.

Disagree, partially ‘cause it was one of my favs when I first got the album, though I don’t know offhand what I’d definitively put below it.

Thinking about it, discussing/ranking openers & closers really has layers, ‘cause like, there’s the quality of the songs themselves. Then, there’s how they work as a first or last track. And then, there’s how they work as the first track to that album. Like, “the 1” is my third favorite opener by the first two criteria, but the third one gets a little more ambiguous for me, y’know?

Huh. Weird ‘cause “The Best Day” is, to me, easily the best song on the album not called “Fearless,” & the relationship between those two defines my thoughts & feelings on the rest of the album.

I appreciate the sentiment of that song, but it's always felt so dull and plodding for me, melodically.

"Hoax" just blows me away. The piano sound. The intimacy of the recording. And the best line she's ever written, "Don't want no other shade of blue but you"

I do love that line, the song as a whole just feels a bit anticlimactic for me as a closer. I think it's because it comes after "peace" which really feels final to me in a profoundly satisfying way.

I actually found making that list that I much prefer her openers.

I saw her perform “Change” on the self titled tour and went “oh no I hate this song”. Still my least favorite song off Fearless, fortunately the rest turned out magnificent.

Best Openers: State of Grace, Mine, Fearless

    This made me realized
how much I legitimately love every one of her openers though.

Beat Closers: Begin Again, New Years Day, Our Song (I do agree it doesn’t fully feel like a “closer” though)

I’m extremely biased bc I had my father/daughter dance at my wedding to “the best day” but I must defend its cuteness.

Speaking of that, pretty sure we will have Lover as our first dance song. My fiancé is a life long Taylor Swift fan so it’s more her decision than mine, but I’m down with it.

(unless Brian Fallon covered Lover ... that would be absolutely it)
