Hate to change the topic, but ever since you've posted this, I can't stop thinking how irritating it is that The Boy's Republic isn't on Spotify.

I was kinda hoping it would be on Black Stallion.

These are the days that make me miss my old iPod classic so much.

Even tho I get why people wouldn’t like this Korea it’s certainly a nice vibe-y track.

Yeah after my first listen the stretch of Street Carp to Knife Party is all I really can envisage ever going back to.

  6. People on social.media seem so mad about these songs sound like -- gasp! -- remixes

We reach for the longest shadow

I don’t agree with getting mad at people on social media about it, but these are a little more than normal remixes. A lot of these have no connection to the originals aside from one vocal line repeated or maybe one guitar line

More like a total "reimagining" of some songs.

Or even more accurate... an electronic song that "contains interpolations of X Deftones song". That's kind of what I'm hearing for Feiticeira, Korea, and even Change.

But yeah, no reason to get mad about it. We still have a brand new Deftones album from this year lol.

a lot of remixes, potentially a great majority of them, replace the music entirely

What you have here in this thread is a bunch of people (myself included) that listen to approximately zero entirely electronic artists, and then trying (and mostly failing) to critique the remix work done on songs from one of their favorite albums of all time.

    ;-p

It's typical of remix albums done by various artists, but it can be jarring to go from style to style so quickly. There are some gems on here though. I would love to hear a remix of the entire White Pony album done by some of these artists.

  14. I was listening to the RX Queen remix in the car today and my 4 year old son goes “dad, this is weird music.” Haha

My friend told me his 3 year old went through a phase of asking to listen to Korea, during which he would sit completely motionless and silent through the entire song.

This would go on my "PRO" list when it comes to the concept of having a child.

  18. I’m liking Black Stallion more and more with each listen. The Purity Ring remix of Knife Prty is an absolute jam. Passenger, Pink Maggit are fire.

  22. Incubus are so, so good. They’ve trailed off a bit with some of their recent releases but the live show is still top notch.

Has Incubus released anything good since A Crow? That’s about when I fell off.

  24. Light Grenades, 8, and Trustfall EP have good songs but overall they’re not as complete as Crow and the earlier releases.

Agreed they definitely have some "moments" , but none are as strong as anything ACLOTM or before.

It has always bugged me a bit that most fans complain that they aren't "heavy" anymore. I don't mind at all the style shift, some of their coolest songs (Mexico, 11AM, Summer Romance, etc) are mellower tracks - it's more that the newer stuff is just so.... middle of the road. I think they just lack in songwriting and melody what they used to excel at.
