SUCH A COCKTEASE ALL THE TIME.

I love them. I LOVE THEM! But fuck, don't give us more t-shirts or a poster.

This band is just straight up being dicks to their fans at this point.

  6. It really feels strange for them to not be teasing anything but new music or a live stream at this point, if they're going to tease at all. I know covid wrecked their plans but it would be awesome to get a bit more transparency on what the future holds for them!

I've seen a few similar comments to this and disagree. They announced their return with a full blown national tour for this fall that had to be rescheduled to next year because of covid. What do you expect them to do? No one is entitled new music, but if they are working on some, it might not be done or they might be doing what tons of other bands are doing and waiting to announce it when they can tour to support it. AFI’s new record has been done for a while and is on the shelf for this reason too. No one would scoff at this merch collab if the band were currently on tour. It just seems to me like fans are mad at a band they like for a situation that is out of their control.

That's not the point. It's not about new music or anything like that at this point. The band knew *exactly* what they're doing by tweeting out a teaser like this. They know the exact type of reaction it's going to elicit, and they're straight up taking advtantage of that. They've been completely silent almost the entire year, so of course no one would scoff at this if the band were on tour because it wouldn't be significant. Them releasing a cryptic teaser after a long period of radio silence and riling people up (again, absolutely knowing that would be the reaction) is super dickish.

Yeah, doing a cryptic teaser for anything besides anything major (new music, livestream) is kind of cruel of them at this point. No, we the fans aren't owed any of that, but to continue to tease each new makeup and funko pop release like it *could* be something actually exciting feels a little bit like taking advantage of their audience.

entitlement sure is a wild thing. there is literally nobody to blame but yourself if you choose to wet yourself every time MCR posts anything remotely 'tease'-y. these guys owe us absolutely nothing, and to get this angry at a group of people (who very openly have been doing lots of other things non-music related for YEARS) teasing a product release (that they were probably asked to do by the company behind the product) is.....just very 'get off the internet and go outside'.

    Give what you can.

This band definitely gets together every few months, picks out some gothy looking footage, throws some music behind said footage, and puts it out to tease some merch for fun. Then they all laugh and listen to their awesome new record no one will ever get to hear.

The post says "eyes," this isn't exactly cryptic teasing or anything at all like what they were doing in Oct '19 or January of this year. It's very clearly makeup, which is something some fans have been wanting for a while now. I'd hoped they'd do some more music stuff this year in spite of the pandemic too but the entitlement is weird

I'm sorry but how is it very clearly makeup? The video is of a flower that's on fire. "Eyes" could mean literally anything. They did the one word thing with Clarity, Devotion, Sacrifice, and Courage.

It’s fascinating how wanting musical groups to do music related things is now ‘entitlement.’ This is truly the strangest era to be alive in.

I’m not totally sure what you’re advocating here. So, we shouldn’t be excited when a band we care about teases something? Because they owe us nothing, and we should just expect it’s non-music related? I’m positive that isn’t what they want. They want the millions of rabid fans of their music hanging on everything they post. But then if those fans get mad that it isn’t music, then the fans are in the wrong? The logical conclusion to this conversation seems to be ‘stop paying attention, it’s probably not music anyway.’

MCR is a band. They make music. Expecting/hoping that when they post that something music related is coming is simply expecting them to be what they are, and what everyone is following them for in the first place. No one became a fan of MCR the makeup makers; they became fans of MCR the band. And hey, they can do what they want and advertise how they want. But this reaction from their fans has to be something they know is coming.

I keep seeing the phrase "They owe us nothing" between here and Reddit. Nobody is expressing whatsoever that they are owed anything. We can all simultaneously agree that the band account tweeting a mysterious video of a flower is very, clearly going to rile people up and that they don't have to release new music. Literally the only thing most of us are asking for is for them to just once be straight with us instead of being mysterious about everything. Wanting to know the answers about why they reunited, if there's going to be new music or not, etc., and being frustrated that they're not saying anything, is not entitlement.

I am advocating not getting pissy and calling them 'dicks' when the thing they're teasing doesn't end up being what you got yourself all worked up and convinced it was.

Nobody ever said you can't be excited when a band you like posts or teases something.

It literally isn't. Entitlement is the belief you have a right to something. *Wanting* something is not entitlement. *Wanting* an answer to questions is not entitlement.

Ok then if you don't believe you have a right to know answers, stop getting pissy on the internet when you don't get the answers?

i don't know what else to tell you man. you'd probably have way more information about it by now if their entire plan didn't get fucked by covid. when the band wants to release information they will.

    I think this is fair.

But so is this: a local burger place where I live closes every day at 3 pm. Folks for years have asked for dinner hours, because the burgers are the best. So anyway, one day on Facebook they tease a huge announcement about dinner hours and people get very excited. Turns out, it was a one night only thing for a charity thing; the wording sure sounded like it was the thing everyone wanted, but it wasn’t. People were bummed.

I’m still gonna eat their burgers. But I’m gonna pay much attention to their social media, because bait and switches are no fun. I doubt this is what the burger place wants, but it’s the reaction they got.

I maintain that no one is entitled to anything. But social media advertisers know what they’re doing. And sometimes that sucks.

This is my problem. All I said initially was 'they're being dicks' by tweeting the video. Never expressed whatsoever any expectations I had about what the video was for, or that I got myself worked up over it. I just shared my assessment that the band knows exactly the type of response to expect from the majority of the fanbase when they do things like that. I'm providing discussion on the topic and calling it like I see it, and you're attributing words to me that I never actually said.

EDIT: In other words, I'm stating my observations on the situation and you're misinterpreting that as my stance on the situation.
