Wow, what a remarkably smug response. Shocking you can’t get half of America to agree with your rhetoric.

We started back in our building today, with the plan being that secondary students start on Monday the 14th. Yep, 7 school days before Winter break. Everyone knows it doesn't make any sense.

Today was an asynchronous day so I was only in the building for roughly 4 hours, but tomorrow I have to teach, via zoom, to all my students, who are still at home. Why cant I continue to teach from home until the students get there? who knows.

Oh and also covid cases are exploding here and our state's guidelines for closing schools to be full virtual again are going to finish this week with 2 out of 3 of them in the red, which they developed to start the year and now because we're almost there, our govenor is suddenly back tracking and trying to say "Well it doesn't mean the state is going to tell you that you HAVE To go virtual" and rolling with the "Schools are safe, it's not spreading in schools" shit. Meanwhile, on our district survey only 29% of the kids at our high school said they were coming back for hybrid.

So we're putting a whole bunch of people in danger, making it harder on teachers, and making the experience for the virtual kids worse (by splitting the attention of the teacher away from the zoom and to the kids sitting in the room), all so 250 of our kids can be in the building twice a week total.

Back to my early 2000's MTV TRL/Fuse TV memories I go

    Comments are great

"Man depression was just better in the 2000s"

"I love how the comment section is turning into a group therapy session of depressed adults in their late 20s to early 30s"

No, I’m connecting the general doomscrolling, radical inflexibility, and snide overtone with political hobbyism. I appreciate that many of us use this thread to vent, but you have literally no idea what my volunteering and activism looks like, respectfully.

She really should be prosecuted for perjury. This shit has to stop. Some of it is funny sure but there has to be consequences for lying and taking up public resources.

I don't even know what I just watched. I hope when this is all over any of these people lying/wasting resources ARE punished. Waste of tax payer dollars.

That argument comparing defunding the police to gay marriage (in an anti-“DEFUND THE POLICE,” pro-civil unions as a necessary step) clearly is being made by people who can’t remember what it was like to at one point oppose gay marriage themselves, or to be around people who still don’t like it.

Like, I remember my own “civil unions would be better” phase. It wasn’t strategic. It wasn’t a necessary step towards caring about gay rights or whatever. It was a young me buying into one of the positions that was presented to me as valid, one that let me be less heartless while still letting me keep homosexuals at arms length, as other.

I really think that, similarly, if “defund the police” (which is an incredibly straightforward slogan, imo, as a starting place to communicate the basic idea)... doesn’t sound like a good slogan to you? Then, I imagine that’s actually because you, personally, don’t REALLY believe in its basic premise, but you wanna sound less heartless when opposing it. Which, is pretty believable given some of the counter proposals thrown out, lol.

And, for the record, I’m someone who has mixed feelings on “ACAB” as a broader message (mainly because I think it’s easy to misconstrue as against individuals, instead of the larger illegitimate system), in spite of personally agreeing with it. So, I don’t think nuanced discussion of strategy is inherently bad & in bad faith. But, I’ve yet to see an argument against “defund the police” as a slogan that hasn’t also felt, at its root, critical of the ideology & goals (regardless of what’s being claimed along the way).

Maybe, if “progressives” & the like who allegedly support the idea spent more time clarifying & defending it publicly, instead of publicly criticizing activists, then (like with gay marriage & the still ongoing fight over healthcare, & various anti-war movements over the years) maybe we’d end up with a more robust base to mobilize for change, instead of debate-club-ing ourselves to death.

I think what not factored enough into this, the left cannot communicate message, talk is that it is competing against a conservative and liberal corporate media machine that owns all the cable network news stations, most newspaper media, and doesn’t just are its position but creates the consensus and parameters for debate and acceptable political positions.

My friend's girlfriend was told on Tuesday she was exposed to COVID this past Friday at work. My friend told his employer (he is a technician for a certain cable company that owns NBC) and they told him he should continue working as long as he's asymptomatic. He goes into people's houses! I wish I could say I was surprised
