Music in general has become way too convoluted with genre tags. Metal is the worst offender.

Yeah, the Melon as the kids call him dabbled in some "cringe culture" BS in the past but has since apologized for it and has put his money where his mouth his in promoting lots of BIPOC and queer artists every chance he gets. He's a single digit number of dudes from that era that I believe has actually repented, LOL.

That said his takes on metal are, put simply, boomer as fuck more often than not hahahaha. He's entertaining to listen to but I think even he knows that anybody that pedestals him as a god of critique is off their rocker.

 

I often go to him for new music recs and he usually delivers. His Let’s Argue vids are good too

 

grammys don't matter but giving it to riley would matter

 

I have no understanding of what is mainstream popular or not...but power trip getting a nomination is huge.

 

I really don't care about the Grammy's, but if Power Trip doesn't win, I will be legitamately upset.

 

Power Trip winning would be the feel good story of the year

 

it'll be poppy given the grammy's history. just y'all watch.

edit: not saying this as an indictment of poppy's sound. she's cool and unique in my book, but this is just where the 2020 cycle and the grammy's are historically. looking at you jethro tull.

I hope PT wins but damn all of these are decent picks IMHO. Even that In This Moment record, it's their best one in a long time.

I have legitimately never even heard a Jethro Tull song and they're never even mentioned in any of the heavy metal history books. They're not even tangentially related to the scene, it feels like, so it's bizarre they keep getting attention.

 

People will never forget their win over Metallica

 

That's exactly the reason why them winning the first ever hard rock/heavy metal Grammy over the likes of Metallica, Jane's Addiction, Iggy Pop, and AC/DC was so surprising. Especially when Metallica was considered a shoe-in for ...And Justice for All.

 

And then Metallica goes on to win for St. Anger lmao
