Whenever I hear Doug Jones, my mind goes to this guy

 

There has been talk that she would not go far enough with support of criminal justice reform. She in the past has supported mandatory minimum sentencing and the death penalty. She also had some criticism of how she handled the 2014 clemency project. Now I think some of that may have changed in her mind but it seems like she is not on the forefront with a lot of this reform and only jumps on reforms when they are overwhelmingly popular.

Biden's possible attorney general pick has moderate track record - progressive critics

Doug Jones I think is considered moderate, but then again he was a Democratic politician in Alabama lol. But as senator he was, somewhat suprisingly, more of a reliable vote than the Joe Manchin's of the world.

From what I remember of him in itnerviews and such, he seems reasonably more progressive than Joe Biden, but obviously he's no Bernie sanders/Liz Warren. So is it fair to put him in that Harris/Booker/Beto/etc category of "more progressive than 90s era Dems, but not the New Deal Progressive we'd like"?

If so....Would he be someone that maybe you'd like to give a shot at the nomination in 2024? Make him AG to keep his name relevant, let him do some good shit as AG on racial justice issues maybe, and then he goes for it?

I know that's a lot of "ifs" and such because I frankly don't know enough about him to know how checkered his hsitory is. But a southern whtie guy with a good track record on criminal justice/racial issues seems like he'd be a good fit to try and keep Georgia and make another run at NC, no? And his southern drawal will make northerners think of him as "working class" so he might be able to connect to some of those "WWC" voters in the midwest as well.


If anyone has any info on why he wouldn't be preferred to some of the other possible non-lefty candidates, I'd be curious to know about it just to compare and such.
