For every funny thing that has happened, there have been 10,000 horrifically terrifying things so maybe it’s just hard for me to find the humor in all of this.

You basically said “Trump’s term has been a lot of things, but funny is not one of them,” yes? How is funny not one of those things?

It’s just a completely incorrect description of the era. Imagine your grandchildren asking you to describe the Trump admin and not mentioning how comical it was to witness on a daily basis. “Sure, the Apprentice guy had the nuclear codes and stared at the sun and was a gossip, and huge segments of the population completely ate it up. But trust me it was NOT funny”

Trump getting covid was funny but then the fact that he didn’t die and recovered gracefully made it unfunny

It was not made unfunny. He still got it and was probably quite close to dying less than a month before an election.

That reminds me - I’ve seen so many people who got covid say that they’ve experienced lingering symptoms like loss of taste and worse. Trump has to still have *something* wrong with him. There’s no way a dude his age/health makes a 100% recovery

If a movie is bad, and only had a scene or two that were funny, but on the whole was bad, is funny anywhere near the top of the list for how you would describe it?

I don’t know why you are talking about movies. We are talking about the Trump administration

Trump is objectively the world's most laughable human. Everything he says, does, and endorses is morally bankrupt, which is unfunny, but he executes it all so poorly that it comes back around and becomes funny again.

I think we all get that there's a distinction between funny and good, but arguing that distinction in relation to Trump in the middle of a deadly pandemic in which he is responsible for nearly quarter of a million deaths is not a hill you would catch me dying on.

While I agree that the situation is not funny at all, we should remember that people have always dealt with bad political situations with humor. Just think of Charlie Chaplins take on Hitler.

While Trump himself may not be funny, he makes great material for comedians to mock him. When I see an interview with him, I do not think it is funny. Then Seth Meyers gives a take on that same interview and I find it hilarious.

The incompetencies of his administration have resulted in funny moments underscored by a Not Funny Thing (ex Four Seasons Total Landscaping, which, while totally hilarious, is also v sad due to them not accepting the results of the election and making things worse for us all). I refuse to minimalize the impact of his violent, pathetic presidency by referring to trump as “funny.”

Trump clearly did not help Covid, but its an absolute fallacy to think your country would have avoided anything less than a disaster, with an insurmountable amount of lives lost, whomever was your president. I get Trump's handling was absolutely atrocious, but Western countries have not handled it well generally, or at least haven't been able to control it like anyone would have wanted.

Your country has a shitty healthcare system, and the USA is founded on principles that are in conflict with what is required to keep this virus at arms length. Those things alone make you handicapped immediately.

I'm from the UK and our deaths per million stat is worse than the USA's. And yet I see lots of Americans on my insta posting stuff that cherry picks various stats from European countries, including the UK, trying to convey a narrative that America is so bad and all of these other countries are doing better.

Just due to the sheer size of your population, in a country like the USA, with the way the way the country is run at various levels, its going to be hard to control the spread. People talk about New Zealand and shit, but New Zealand has a population of just under 5 million, on an island, with a land mass that is bigger than Great Britain. Its just a lazy and awful comparison.

You were always going to be hard hit by this, and its absolutely awful. But blaming Trump for all of those deaths is just ignorant, really. He is most certainly responsible for a %, which is still damning, however, and is what he should be held responsible for.

This is just a general vent btw. Over the whole of the pandemic I've found it super frustrating to watch on, as in the UK we have had an awful time with it too, and I've seen Americans present it on social media in a different way. Per head, we have had more deaths than the USA. And we share no land borders with any country.

I’d feel comfortable saying we probably have 50K or more less deaths if we had a competent president who took it seriously from the beginning. The downplaying of how serious it is and politicizing of measures and masks made a solid 40-60% of this country just act absolutely stupid. Like, almost trying to catch the virus on purpose stupid.
