It still blows my mind that St. Anger is nearly 80 minutes lmao, your "back to basics" album should not be the same length as Tommy

 

I maintain that St. Anger should've been a James solo album. Even still, I think the main issues are the songs are way too long and repetitive and the production.

Been on a bit of funeral doom kick recently. Mournful Congregation has been getting a lot of playtime. This album especially.

 

Lulu’s problem is the sum is not as great as all the parts combined. It’s just a weird record, not bad.

St. Anger is a bad record that should have never seen the light of day. If the band, especially James, were in a different headspace at the time of writing, I’m sure the product would have been better.

If we're actually getting serious about our analyses here:

-Lulu is a Lou Reed album that he just happened to hire Metallica as his backing band for. It's a weird amalgam that's a fun thought experiment that ends up sounding like shit.

-St. Anger just needs to fix Lars snare sound and it at least moves from a 3 out of 10 to a 6.

I'm channeling my election day anxiety into buying the reissue of BTBAM'S Colors on Vinyl and not being nearly productive enough at work. So that is something.

 

I never thought I would see you saying anything remotely positive about the band, let alone buying their second best album. Go you!!!

 

I still got my first pressing of Colors on acid green vinyl, it was a HT exclusive pressing.
