    I get why now is the worst time to discuss not voting, because it is, and certainly bragging about it is just incredibly obnoxious but I have to respectfully disagree in general that harm reduction through voting comes before strikes and rebellions. Most leftists I know promote direct action precisely because most of the significant gains have been made through direct action. This is not to say “don’t vote” but it’s important to note how little voting in and of itself in this country has actually accomplished.

    This might be a hot take but it would be good to vote and also try to form a union imo

    I agree with most of this and no one said we can’t do both, is my thing. Voting and direct action honestly have nothing to do with each other. I’m not criticizing direct action - in fact the people who actually participate in that sort of thing have a better reason, to me, to be jaded by voting. I more so dislike the ones who don’t organize, didn’t do tons of scholarly research, and are only as leftist as the straw man arguments they make on Facebook. As if not voting is a clout thing.

    I don’t think voting accomplishes progress so much as it just shakes up the power of the government & prevents one guy from getting too much momentum (which is crucial right now).

    It may not be an effective means of pushing through real change, because we have little say over which guy is chosen to “represent” us, and in almost all cases it’s a guy who does not speak for the working class.

    But it is how we (Ideally) keep the power and tenure of established politicians in check and, prevent even worse timelines from developing due to incumbents staying unchallenged.

    I believe that keeping the government from gaining even more power / ground on us is part of the approach.

    No argument from me! I’ve tended to defend non voters that have been jaded by the two party system and try to promote direct action. I think they should vote but I understand that to date their vote hasn’t really been courted or earned. This does not apply to the type of person you’re describing though, which are in the minority of non voters if you look at the data. Most non voters aren’t “left” but are not politically engaged at all. It’s mostly lower working class.
    In any event, I’m not even going there this election haha. I’m firmly in the plug your nose and vote Dem camp. We can talk about how much dems suck after Nov. 3.

    I used to not pay attention to politics but in this day and age, I don't think you can afford to be ignorant and remain on the sidelines.

    The thing is there’s just as many grifters that claim to be progressive, the same way there’s a green party. They’re both helping the gop one way or the other. Imagine thinking getting up on a pedestal to be smug now is the correct thing to do, just completely defies logic.

    I think the hopeful outcome of this election is that even though we'll still need to be engaged to advocate for issues we want to advance, we'll get to step down off the ledge where each new hour can bring some awful topic or story.

    Makes me understand being a Jets fan, in a way

    The Miami Dolphins have taken a call on star cornerback Xavien Howard, but it would take a "Laremy Tunsil type" of offer to pry him loose. Miami famously traded Tunsil and Stills to Houston last year for a package that included two first-round draft picks and a second-rounder.
    Why even take that call. It'd be insane to trade him so soon after re-signing him, and he's got at least 3-4 years of productivity left on a team that is presumably ready to compete in the next year or so.

    I'd definitely trade him for 2 firsts and 2 seconds but yeah other than that, doesn't make much sense

    he just turned 27 so he has a few more good years in him, especially with how well he has played this year

    Just feels like a Simpsons->mystery box/boat situation.

    Trade an elite CB for 1st round picks that could become anything, even an elite CB!

    Its wild to think how he dodged the bullet that was Andrew Luck retiring by pulling out of that Indy job...only a year later to lose Brady.
