I had a weird thought during my run today about what if, somehow, dems in populated areas (like CA) took one for the team, spread out across the country, and lived in the areas that truly effect the electoral college.

I mean, nobody really wants to leave their blue city/state where their quality of life is better and their values mostly align with the culture they’re immersed in, but it was a fun thought during my run.

Most people can’t just move to some other state just to change the electorate lol. They need their job, they might have family they need to be close to.

tbf Bill Gates could buy houses in rural PA for enough people to literally change the electorate.

This article goes into how the “Labour antisemitism” narrative has very little actual substance to it, but persisted by virtue of the UK’s overwhelmingly right wing anti-Labour media. And also how the EHRC is a passive vehicle for shitting on Labour while leaving the Tories untouched

Honestly, imagine if in the US there were years of media narratives about how the Dems were deeply explicitly racist, yet nobody touched the GOP in the same way. Anyone even slightly on the left would immediately recognize it as disingenuous bullshit. Yet somehow in the UK, it makes sense for Labour to be under such weirdly intense scrutiny while the Tories — a party we know to be *very* explicitly racist — doesn’t receive half as much attention about it.

They'd probably have to beef up the benefits for the unions to go along with/be happy with it. At least in some states. I know here the insurance the state employees get is better than Medicare as it currently exists for seniors.

Wow, I’m trying not to get my hopes up but my optimism that Texas could flip is growing

Assuming no MFA, couldn’t there easily be a system where nearly all normal expenses are covered by the feds while optional private plans cover what would be the more specialized / expensive aspects of medical insurance? At the very least that would presumably cut costs drastically

I personally know more people that voted Trump, but I also don’t know that many people nor do I live in a county that could have much effect overall. But, my wife and I did our part and are hoping for an upset!

The last time Texas' electoral votes were for the Dem candidate was in 1976 for Carter. It would be crazy if it flipped.

Yeah my partner works for our county and gets awesome benefits for a little copay. Makes up for the lack of pay being a social worker.

Any union worth it’s salt could negotiate better pay and supplemental benefits if the health insurance cost isn’t put on the employer

That would probably be how they'd have to do it to get the unions in some of these states to want to do it. I don't know what Medicare itself covers outside of the generic "80% of expenses" thing, so if that's covering 80% of EVERYTHING, it would seem like it's possible for the state to then get supplemental private insurance to cover the rest of the costs for its workers. I just don't know how much that would actually cost lol. It should be cheaper overall though since Medicare pays out less anyway. And presumably cheaper for the states since I would assume whatever that supplemental insurance costs would almost have to be less than what they pay for our state's insurance, anyway.

To improve the narrative, try not suppressing the vote.
