I think Biden got the nomination out of anxieties of losing to Trump again lol

If Biden wins then Kamala is currently the most likely to be the next Dem president. As much as the mainstream likes to pretend she’s super progressive, I don’t think anyone here is under the delusion that she’s anything more than another soulless ghoul lol

Small reminder that Boomers and older GenX still makes up a large majority of the voting base, in Democratic Party and the electorate as a whole.

20 years from now, the oldest millennials will be pushing 60 years old Boomers will be half gone, etc. Unless there's a big right wing turn in Millennials and GenZ as they age, or if the Alpha Gen is super right wing when they start entering the voting age range, the Democratic party should start swinging left.

It's also worth remembering that literally all of the Dem leadership right now cut their teeth in the politics of the 80s and 90s when they swung right to win elections. 20 years from now that will very much not be the case.

I'm mostly being facetious, but I do think optimism is key here.

Regardless, I'm excited to see Cori Bush and Jamaal Bowman kick ass in Congress, and I eagerly await the 2022 midterms.

If Trump wins the next election, the GOP could make sure that regaining control will be impossible in 20 years tho

Harris has supported a lot of relatively progressive stuff and I think a lot of people are one issuing her cop history into a memory hole where all those other positions don't seem to exist. I'd take her in a second over Biden or any other part of Dem leadership.

Unless there’s an actual concentrated left working class movement and contingency, there will continue to be no incentive for the most powerful Dems to break away from corporate interests. It simply isn’t a kind of change that we can cause from the top down

Except all throughout the primary she made it very clear that she is ideologically hollow and is like a prime example of a “careerist” type. Part of the reason her campaign fell apart was because they couldn’t even settle on what to actually pitch to people!

Most politicians are, and all that means is they're subject to the whims of the electorate, which can be used to the electorate's advantage if they apply the right pressure. I mean, Joe Biden is, at minimum, entertaining the possibility of expanding the Supreme Court. I don't think that's some ideological stance that he's always had and is instead a consequence of him being hollow enough to respond to pressure where it's applied.

At the end of the day, do I believe at her core as a person that she would generally be more amenable to more progressive policy and more likely to fight Republican hardball tactics and just generally be better at most of these things than Joe Biden/Nancy Pelosi/Chuck Schumer/et. al.? Yes, absolutely, 100%. The GenX core of Dems coming up here to replace the boomers and silent generationers are not nearly as good as the AOCs, but they're definitely better than who they're replacing IMO.

We just need to keep electing progressives at all levels of government and I think we are seeing some success there. And we have a really good progressive group of members in the house with more about to be added after this election. It’ll take longer than we all would like it to but I am optimistic we will get there, especially once Milllenials and Gen Z are voting at higher levels than the boomers

Yeah like this is what so many people out there don't seem to understand. If Trump wins this election there won't be real elections in 20 years lol

I mean I just looked at the list of senators by age and fuck yeah please put the Gen X Dems into leadership right now. Foreign policy views of them are meh (tho still somewhat an improvement) but I very much trust Booker/Gillibrand/Schatz/Murphy/Duckworth to take teh fight to the GOP in ways these crypt keepers in leadership now wouldn't.

There's also the dude from New Mexico that I swear I've never heard of lol. Is he any good?
