there's a lot to unpack with this post and i definitely don't want to seem like i'm comin' atcha - but, your diagnosis of us jumping too far to the conclusion that he is a pedophile may be a fair one, but, where there's smoke there's usually fire. in my opinion, his twitter posts are far more than 'dweeby 19 year old shit', and i think it's a tad dangerous to brush it off as that. the same way the poster from yesterday was like "yeah hes always been a d bag lol" - this is someone literally sexualizing minors on a public forum. you don't say shit like that as a joke, and even if you are joking, you don't deserve to be let off the hook.

 

It kinda got buried when I posted it a little while ago, but MGK has 'addressed' a similar tweet that he's made in the past with regards to Eminem's (at the time 16 year old) daughter, and it shouldn't surprise anybody that he doubled down.

We decided collectively that he was not the type of person we wanted to promote or tolerate, and the vast majority of Chorus users believe and support that move, including myself.

 

Also for the record I don’t see anything in here about acting on that attraction so I’m gonna go ahead and say it fits when he’s 20-21 and calling a 15-16 year old “hot as fuck.”

 

At the very least, I agree that he doesn't deserve to be let off the hook for the tweets. It's disappointing that he has the number one album in America and as far as I know it's not something he's asked about in interviews. But then again, I still hear people talk about Jeepers Creepers. (Directed by an actual, convicted pedophile.)

 

lol you must not have been around when the allegations against JL came out because it was not a swift collective decision to cancel him by any means and I’m not gonna let this revisionist history bullshit slide. There were many, many users on this site at the time who fought against canceling Brand New tooth and nail, and it was through the efforts of people fighting for accountability that those users were eventually forced to either leave the site or shut the hell up about Brand New. It was not an easy fix at all. And if those people that are still here felt like it was safe or acceptable to start talking about Brand New positively again, they absolutely would.

My memory is a little hazy on the timeline, but I do remember it not being swift, in part because there were lingering dipshits who wanted to make it clear they didn't care about what Jesse did, and in part because there was a lot of real pain and discussion. I recognize that people on here put themselves through a lot of stress to discourage further discussion of that band, which was the right thing. It's not my intention to rewrite the past or anything.

I'd like to think most regular users on here aren't interested in talking about BN anymore outside of the allegations. They're as good as dead to me, and I know plenty of others on here who are equally genuinely disgusted and ashamed for ever supporting them.
