I honestly have no idea what she's doing with them lmao, but we have maybe 1 out of 4 square iPhone bricks that work properly. They all just have extremely slow charging or don't charge at all. If you use your phone while plugged in, the battery will go down. Maybe it's from chucking them in her purse, idk.

Haha thanks, we're luckily all set from her latest XR and some spare Android chargers that I have laying around :-p. I have not had the same kind of luck she has with hers, didn't know if it was an Apple thing or just how she's been handling them, so I'm now leaning toward the latter.

Neither of us have any bricks that take a USB-C in though... so that'll be an upgrade for me if I switch to iOS since she doesn't have spare cables with the regular USB connector

I was 100% going to skip out on this cycle, then Apple threw a modernized version of my favorite iPhone ever (original SE) at me, and DAMN YOU Tim Apple!!

So the new cases are gonna snap on magnetically through MagSafe? That’s kind of gnarly

That's gotta be one strong magnet for someone to feel safe with their wallet attached to it - don't want it getting yanked off while pulling it from your pocket. And it can't be able to ruin the magnetic strip on your credit cards.

But then, is it *too* strong, to the point where you don't really have the "trip-proof" benefit that Magsafe was historically built for?

So happy about the mini. Been a long time since I bought a current gen/non SE phone bc of the size so this is a no brainer.

Based on the photos the slip for the cards doesn't look very tight either, I'd be reluctant until I see it to put a credit card in it but would be absolutely perfect for office proximity cards and public transport cards...shame no one goes to the office or takes public transport anymore (at least not where I live)

It's really getting harder and harder to justify buying the Pro over the standard iPhone, does anyone (besides maybe app developers) even care about LiDAR?

I think it’s good for low light photography?

Yup, they don't include them anymore and the old ones don't work. Yipee!

I'd like to see field tests after release of the LiDAR sensor for autofocus and low-light. I wonder if apps like Filmic Pro and Lightroom will really take advantage of all these new camera capabilities. If so, and they are a lot better it could push me to grab a 12 Pro. If not I can wait until the 2021 Pro model, or get an 11 Pro off of eBay for like ½ of the price of the 12 Pro.

I hope this new screen is also more scratch resistant so I can go without a screen protector

I don't care if Apple says they will pay me $1000 to not wear a screen protector claiming some ridiculous stat about how scratch resistent the new phone is, I will ALWAYS put one on. No case? Sure, I'm down with that every now and then, but I always want a screen protector.

Been brain storming and pouring over comparisons on Apple’s site and others. Coming from an 8 that I love the size of, going slightly bigger for the 12 Mini would be nice. But I want all the bells and whistles so the 12 Pro sounds good..... but it will be a huge size jump that IDK if I want to go with that big of a phone. But the Pro has a brighter screen, better battery that I’ll actually notice, (probably) more ram, and that telephoto lens which will be cool. This is tougher than I thought.

Yeah I feel like it's super hard to scratch glass these days and if you have a case with bumpers on it, the chances of breaking from a drop are slim. I drop my phone constantly and haven't had issues (other than the one time I decided to take my case off....)

I don't miss the days when a quarter in your pocket would destroy an iPod Video's display lol

I’ve been using an edge to edge glass screen protector that fits so well with the case I’m using, I genuinely forget that’s it there. Doesn’t detract from the experience for me in the slightest, so I’m happy to use one for the peace of mind.

The 12 Mini would actually be smaller than your 8.

So like, I won’t be ordering a phone until November 6th, but I should definitely go ahead and order the MagSafe charger on Friday, yeah?

  22. I would say yeah just to be safe plus it can still wirelessly charge your current device

With MagSafe on the 12 I’m getting the 13 or possibly 14 will go completely wireless and ditch the cable port altogether in the future. Apple is really pushing wireless and Bluetooth accessories. Removing the headphones and power brick this year was definitely just the start.
