I don’t entirely know what to make of Ani DiFranco’s Little Plastic Castle tbh. She’s wildly unique and that’s really appealing. But her quirks are right on that line between appealing and annoying. I’ll have to run through it a second time and get a real sense of how I feel

Have you tried the Ruston Kelly album yet? Feels like something you’d be into based on the other stuff on your list.

I’ll check out that KennyHoopla EP. Never heard of him!

I have my 50, but now it's time to rank them ugh

  10. I think I've heard a couple of his Dirt Emo covers but haven't given him a fair listen! Will spin that today.

Kenny's EP reminds me a lot of the first 1975 EP - a little shaggy, and probably not for everyone, but the songs have hooks. Plastic Door or the title track are good places to start.

totally, I've said the wheelhouse overlap is strong with us. although you’re likely more in the country part these days, I feel like we came of age on similar musical journeys.

and nice on Kearney. I go back and forth with City of Black & White, but that one impacted me most and just sounds like my childhood. “in the middle” “can’t break her fall” and “what’s a boy to do” is one of the great three song runs from where I’m listening

Your list intrigues me in that of the 10 I haven't heard, for 7 of them I've straight up never heard of the artist.

    That's...relatively rare for me?

Kearney kind of lost me on his last record, which I just think is really awful, but the Nothing Left to Lost - City of Black and White - Young Love stretch really meant a lot to me. Just Kids has some great stuff too, I just think he drifted a little to far toward insubstantial radio pop.

I'm legitimately surprised you haven't heard that Mat Kearney album.

well I can only hope it leads to the discovery of something you really love. you’re obviously a prolific and diverse listener & have a ton of stuff I love on yours. I’m glad to make some introductions and looking forward to exploring gaps in your list. I’ve been digging through time lately, and it’ll definitely help with that. I started the first Dan Fogelberg record a bit back but got distracted and never returned to him even though I really liked his voice. so this is a good reminder and incentive to listen deeper. I’ve also never heard Mary Chapin Carpenter so I'll be starting there

since my list was too ahead of its time, just want to pop back in and say this is one of the best albums ever and the one thing off my list that people prolly haven't heard that i wish they would! incredibly discerning project returning from a long hiatus and furthering an adored 90s reputation. exclusively poetic/cryptic lyrics, packed full of lil riffs and syncopation, godly guitar tones, overall just a natural playing-out of a 'less is more' approach to songwriting. quite unlike most things that are technically the same genre and under 40 minutes so just do it.

yea my feelings on his discog are similar, but I'm still holding out hope for a comeback on the next one.

and did you ever listen to those Tyler Lyle records? I remember mentioning them to you. seems like you would love his stuff, so many of your wheelhouse qualities there
